The Best of Us (Love in Isolation 2)

Without warning, my body shakes, and an orgasm takes over. My pussy squeezes, and his body tenses.

Ryan buries his face in my neck as he thrusts deeper and comes inside me. I widen my legs and arch my back so I can take all of his release. Knowing he hasn’t been with someone in a year and he chose me gives me great satisfaction.

With a deep groan, Ryan pumps once more inside me before pulling out. Instead of getting up like I expect, he curls up next to me. He wraps an arm around me and moves me to his side.

We’re still breathing heavy as we settle into the sofa. I wrap an arm around his waist and a leg over his.

Silence passes between us until he looks over and tilts up my chin. “That was pretty amazing.” He winks with a smirk.

“Agreed.”DAY 5I wake up with a mild headache and a stiff body—one that’s pressed to Ryan’s. Slowly looking up at him, I exhale in relief when I see he’s still asleep. I’m not sure how he’s going to react being this close now that we’ve actually had sex.

Though I drank some wine last night, I’m not waking with an ounce of regret. If anything, it gave me just enough liquid courage to say what I’ve been holding in. Now I finally have confirmation that Ryan has feelings for me too. Maybe not ‘jump into a relationship’ type feelings, but at least I know they’re not one-sided.

Maybe we can have fun for now knowing it won’t turn into anything. Of course it’d be nice if he was ready for that, but I won’t push that on him. I’m happy with whatever he’s willing to give me, even if it’s just sex.

I manage to slide off the couch without disturbing him and pick up my clothes from the floor. Without Ryan’s body heat, it’s freezing in here. The fire has long died, and there aren’t any hot coals. If he doesn’t get up soon, I’ll have to wake him so he can make one because I have no idea where to start.

Before I do that, I head to my room and use the bathroom before putting on clean clothes. I can’t wait to soak in the tub and take a shower. We’re lucky the cabin has so much natural light during the day so we only have to use the candles at night.

I brush my teeth and try to fix my hair. It’s long and thick so I typically have to use a lot of product to maintain it. I’m used to washing it daily so not being able to is driving me crazy. But I’m doing my best to just go with the flow, even if that means eating tuna on crackers and Pop-Tarts.

Once I’m done, I head to the kitchen and find Ryan standing shirtless behind the counter. He’s chugging a bottle of water and when our eyes meet, I try to read him.

“Morning,” he says.

“Good morning,” I reply, walking closer to grab some water too.

“How’d you sleep?”

“Pretty good, actually. Though I have a little headache now, but nothing major. How about you?”

“Yeah, good. Freezing my ass off, but I got the fire going again.”

At the mention of his ass, I blush. It’s because he woke up naked, and I was already gone.

“Oh awesome. Yeah, I was pretty cold too…” I say, testing for a reaction.

“Well, it should warm up in a few minutes. I’m gonna change, then check for updates. Then we can figure out what to do for breakfast if you want?” He rounds the island and walks toward the stairs.

“Oh, um, sure. I’ll start looking.”

I’m too stuck in my head to even think about what to eat but peruse the pantry anyway. I’m not really sure how I expected him to act the morning after, but this…he’s being so normal. Like we’re just two roommates hanging out.

And even though I’ve never had a roommate before, I’m pretty sure most of them don’t just have sex and act like nothing happened the next day.

I grab the box of Pop-Tarts even though I’m sick of them already. After this, there won’t be any left. Moments later, Ryan returns in jeans and a sweatshirt but in my head I’m still picturing him naked and on top of me.

“You okay?”

Blinking hard, I shake my head and force a smile. “Yeah, just wishing we could get a hot meal.” I hold up the strawberry Pop-Tarts. “I’m gonna have a sugar crash from all this processed food.”

He chuckles and walks closer. My heart races as he steps toward me, then picks up an apple off the island. “Here. Maybe try this instead?”

I stare into his eyes, wondering if he’ll mention anything about last night. The intense way he looks at me gives me goose bumps, and I nearly shiver.
