Undeniable Love (Journey of Love 2)
Frowning, I pushed my hand through my hair as she stared at me. “Thanks, Renee. Just leave the door open.”
She nodded slightly and headed back to her desk. I couldn’t read Renee. Some days she acted as if she hated me, other days it was like she wanted to pounce on me. One of the other lawyers informed me she was good at one thing, blowjobs.
I wasn’t gonna go there. Ever.
Looking back down at the notes, I began reading the depositions. Two minutes later I heard my father’s voice booming throughout the office.
“Renee, is my son in?”
“Yes, sir.”
Standing up, I held my breath and waited for what was to come.
Strolling into my office like he owned the world, my father wore a smile that screamed he was the most confident man in the building. I swear the only reason he won so many cases was because he scared the hell out of the jury.
Gesturing with his hand for me to sit back down, my father shut the door. “Sit, Aaron. I want to discuss a case with you.”
Doing as he asked, I sat down in my chair and leaned back with a confident smile of my own. I was probably the only man in this building who was not afraid of my father.
“What kind of case?”
Taking in a deep breath, he blew it out slowly as he took in my office. “You like the office?”
Rolling my eyes, I cleared my throat. “I do. Thank you for asking. Again.”
Raising his mouth in a half smile, he asked, “Have I already asked that?”
Giving a halfhearted smile in return, I said, “Three times, sir.”
Picking at a piece of imaginary lint, he looked at me. “It’s a divorce case. The lawyer I originally assigned to the case is a jackass and I’m pretty sure he is afraid of the judge. The asshole husband is turning out to be a bigger dick than I thought. He cheated, wife caught him, but he is pleading he was neglected by the wife and searched out companionship. Now he claims she was cheating on him. I want this fucker taken down. I like the girl. She’s a hard worker and you know how much I dislike cheaters.”
Attempting to calm my heart that was now pounding in my chest, I leaned forward. “And you want me take over this case?”
Narrowing his eyes at me, he asked, “Do you not feel like you can handle it, Aaron?”
Sitting up straighter, I let out a gruff laugh. No fucking way I’m turning down this case. “I’m more than up for the challenge. You want the husband taken down—I’ll take him down. That’s a promise.” I was shocked my father was putting so much confidence in me. He clearly wanted the husband to lose this case, so by him bringing me onto the case it showed he thought I could win this. My heart was beating so loud I was sure he heard it.
The smile that spread across my father’s face told me he was pleased with my answer. Standing up, he smoothed out his suit. “I knew I could count on you, Aaron. Show me you can win this one, and the next case you fight will be alongside me.”
Pressing my lips together, I kept from showing my father what he said pleased the hell out of me. Nodding, I stood up, reached for his hand and said, “Sounds good.”
“Now that you’re ready, your client is waiting in conference room six. I just spoke with her and told her I was assigning a new lawyer. This girl is sweet and innocent. I want her taken care of, Aaron.”
My eyes widened in horror. Holy shit. He just pushed this onto my plate and he wants me to meet the client right now? “She’s here? Now? I haven’t even looked at her case.”
Winking and turning away from me, he said, “She’s here, right now. Head on over and introduce yourself. The file is in the conference room. Take it home tonight and look it over. Meanwhile, I want her getting to know her new lawyer as soon as possible.”
Turning, he headed to the door. Before opening it, he glanced back at me. “Make me proud, Aaron.”
The air left my lungs as he opened the door and shut it. Collapsing back down in my chair, I dragged in deep breaths.
Make me proud, Aaron.
This is it. This is the case I’ve been waiting for to prove to my father I had what it took to be a good lawyer. Grabbing a notepad and pen, I made my way to conference room six.
Quickly walking by Renee’s, desk she called out, “Do you need me for your meeting, Mr. . . . um . . . Aaron?” Giving Renee a wink, I shook my head.
Standing outside the door to the conference room, I took a few seconds to get my thoughts straight. The first thing I had to do was win over the client. I needed to make sure she knew I was on her side. For all I knew she was a fifty-year-old bored housewife with a husband trying to find his lost youth.
Fuck. Why didn’t I ask Dad what her name was?
Taking in a deep breath, I smelled a familiar perfume. My body instantly warmed. Where did I know that perfume?
Reaching for the door, I plastered on the smile I knew caused panties to melt no matter what their age was. Turning the knob, I pushed the door open and walked into the room. Sitting at the end of the long conference table was . . . Sierra?
What in the hell is she doing here?
Holy hell. Please, God, tell me this is not happening. I’m so fucked.
Slowly standing up, Sierra stared at me with that cute little thing she did with her mouth when she was at a loss for words. Which wasn’t often. Slowly wetting her lips, she went to talk, but nothing came out.
Moaning internally at the action, I stared at her lips. Damn how I wanted those lips wrapped around my cock.
No. Wait. Stop. You’re her lawyer. Shit. I’m Sierra’s lawyer.
The last time I saw Sierra was at the coast. Our mutual friends got engaged and invited a few of us to spend a few days with them.
“Sierra, it’s um—” Clearing my throat, I motioned for her to sit down. Staring at me for a few more seconds, Sierra slowly sat down as a look of pure shock and confusion swept over her face.
Shutting the door, I moved to the table and took a seat about three seats down from her. Just being near Sierra had my body aching with desire.
“W-what are you doing here, Dodge?”
I wasn’t about to let my rocky relationship with Sierra, or the fact that I wanted nothing more than to fuck her senseless, ruin my chance at showing my father what I could do on this case.
Smiling, I adjusted my suddenly too tight tie. “It’s, ah, it’s Aaron, not Dodge.” Sierra’s eyes lit up and I wanted desperately to find out why my real name caused her to look like she just had a mini fantasy.
Swallowing hard, Sierra shook her head as if clearing her thoughts. “Okay, Aaron. Why are you here? I’m about to have a meeting with my new lawyer, so you’re gonna have—”
Suddenly her eyes widened. I was pretty sure Tristan and Ryn had let Sierra know I was working for my father’s law firm again.
Here goes nothing. “I’m here, Mrs. Jackson, because I’m your new lawyer.”
