I turned back to look at Josh. “Yeah?”

“Um, you’re squeezing the hell out of my hand,” he said with a small smile.

“Oh my god! I’m so sorry, Josh. ” I let go of his hand. Shit! Shit! Shit!

“Ah, damn, don’t make me laugh. Shit, you’re the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. ”

Cute? What the hell am I? A puppy? I tried to smile at him. “Oh, um…well, I, um…” Damn, I can’t even talk.

“I’ve never seen anyone as beautiful as you,” he said, looking at my lips.

I couldn’t help myself. I licked them again before biting down on my lower lip. Why do I feel like I’m falling in love with him all over again?

“You look like you want to kiss me, Heather,” he said with seduction in his voice.

“Josh…” Please give me strength.

“How long have we known each other?” he asked, pulling me out of my moment of weakness.

Thank God because I almost leaned over to kiss him. “Um…two and a half years. We met at Ellie’s graduation party. Ellie and I went to high school together. ”

“So, you’re still in college?”

“No, I graduated last August,” I said with a smile.

“What? How the hell did you manage that?” he said as he tried to sit up some more.

“Do you need help?” I asked as I stood up.

“I just wanted to try to sit up a little bit more. ” He put his hands on each side of the bed to push himself up.

When I reached over to help him, he stopped moving.

“Don’t touch me, Heather!” he said with panic in his voice.

“Oh shit! Did I hurt you?” I asked, stepping back.

“No! Shit, no, you didn’t hurt me at all. ”

He moved himself up a little, and the pain on his face gutted me.

I wish I could take the pain away.

“That’s sweet of you, but I wouldn’t want you in this kind of pain,” Josh said with a smile.

“What?” I asked, confused.

“You said you wished you could take the pain away, but I wouldn’t want to ever see you in this kind of pain. ”

“Wait, I said that out loud?” I asked, confused as hell.

Josh let out a laugh and then quickly stopped and swore.

“Can I ask you something, Josh?” I said as I sat back down in the chair.

“Of course. Ask away. Not going to promise I’ll remember if you ask me anything about us, but I can try!”

I let out a giggle, shaking my head. “No, it’s just…why did you just tell me not to touch you?”
