Broken (Broken 1)
“The track?”
He glanced at me and nodded.
“You have a racetrack on your property?”
He laughed. “Yep, it’s a small quarter-mile track that Mike put in about three years ago. ”
“Wow. ”
How much money did they make off their horses anyway?
r /> “Mike was just like our old man. He knew his horses. Since we were in high school, he made me save every damn dime I’d made, and he would use half of it on the races. He always at least doubled it. ”
It’s like he’s reading my mind.
He glanced over and smiled at me. “What made a girl from New York move to the small town of Llano?”
I laughed and shook my head. “I’ve wanted to move to Texas since I was in high school. One day, my dad met this guy at the racetrack, and he talked about his hometown in Texas. My dad instantly connected with him, and needless to say, they became fast friends, especially after my father won over a hundred and fifty thousand dollars on the races just from listening to this guy. Oh man, did he know his racehorses. We saw him a number of times after that, and each time, my dad made a ton of money. Nothing like that first day though!”
I smiled, remembering back to the first time we had met him. Fast-Track Jack was his name. He had the bluest of blue eyes and a dimple on his cheek. I remembered being slightly in awe over how good-looking he was. Even my mother had leaned over to tell me she’d had to fan herself from the heat coming from the guy. I briefly closed my eyes and pictured that day.
Layton laughed. “Damn, sounds like he knew his shit. What town was he from in Texas?”
I snapped my eyes open, and my heart started pounding.
Oh my God. The man I remembered looked exactly like…Layton.
“Um…Llano. He was from Llano. ”
I was looking at Layton, and his smile faded. He stopped the truck, put it in park, and looked at me.
“What was his name?”
My chest started moving up and down. “Fast-Track Jack. I mean, his name was Jack, but that’s what the guys at the track called him. ”
I watched as all the color drained from Layton’s face.
“Layton…”
He turned and looked straight ahead. We sat there for a good five minutes in silence.
“I know now why he had to leave. ”
I shook my head, confused. “Your dad? You know why he left you and Mike?”
He looked back at me and smiled slightly. “He had to leave me in order for you to find me. ”
I felt tears building in my eyes. “Oh, Layton. ”
I unbuckled my seat belt and crawled over onto his lap. My lips found his, and I ran my fingers through his hair as he moved his hand up my dress.
“Whitley, my father led you to me. ” His kisses quickly turned more passionate.
I felt him moving his seat back as I pulled my lips from his.
“Layton…Oh God…Layton,” I whispered.
I watched him unbuckle his pants, and I sat up slightly, so he could pull them down and expose himself to me. I lifted my dress and pushed my panties over, so I could sit down on him.
