The Lyon's Cub Caitlin (Lyon The Next Generation 1)
“Of course.” I kissed her hair marveling at how easy she switches from one emotion to the next.
“Let’s go then.” I helped her up off the swing and we headed back inside and out the front so I could grab one of my bags from the truck. The room she showed me to was very nice and I noticed well away from hers. I’d have to pass her parents’ room to get to her, if I were so inclined, which I’m not. It was just something to notice.
I’d been so caught off guard by her crying that I’d forgotten about the other thing. Now as she went around the room making sure I had everything I could possibly need my mind was consumed with that shit again.
LYON
I watched the two of them leave and sighed long and hard before taking my seat again. My wife came waltzing in seconds later. I was about to send her ass packing because I needed a break but the look on her face had me jumping out of my chair. “Kat what the fuck? Who fucked with you?” I knew it couldn’t be one of our kids because they know better.
She shook her head and walked into my arms, putting arms around me. Now my wife has a lot of moods, she can be a pain in the ass, which is my mood of choice. If she’s griping at me about some shit then I know she’s okay. When the kids piss her off she goes into a cleaning frenzy.
But this, this one I’ve never seen. “Kat?” I caressed her hair and hugged her closer with the other arm. “Baby, what happened?”
“I just got off the phone with Mrs. Henderson.”
“Who?”
“Todd’s mother.”
“Yeah?”
“I told her that Todd had to stay here tonight since he came a week earlier than expected and the cleaners haven’t been round to their place yet.” She stopped talking like that shit was supposed to make sense.
“What upset you about that?”
“Well, we got to talking about things and she said…she said she doesn’t think Todd and Caitie should see each other anymore. She thinks Todd has outgrown our daughter, that he can do better.”
“The fuck did you just say? What’s her number? Gimme her number.” I started to walk away.
“Now Colt don’t do anything, just let me handle it.”
“Fuck…that. She said some off colored shit about my kid and you want me to do nothing?”
“She didn’t really Colt, she didn’t say anything bad about Caitlin, just that she thinks Todd should move on.”
“The fuck is she on? She waited until the kid waited four years to pull this shit? Have you seen those two together? Gimme… never mind I’ll find it myself.”
“Colton, leave it alone don’t make it worst. Now I already got her to calm down. She’s going to give it some thought, she’ll come back around you’ll see.”
“Well what the hell set her off?”
“I don’t know, she said something about Todd missing his whole childhood she thinks he’s missing out on stuff. You know he refused to go to his prom with anyone else when Caitlin couldn’t make it.”
Wait a minute. Is this my doing? What was it that I’d said to her and her halfwit husband the last time they were here? Fuck if I can remember. But I’ll be fucked if some twit is going to fuck with my kid’s future.
“You’ve got two days.”
“Two…. Does that seem reasonable to you? This is her son after all. Look how long it’s taking you to come around. She has as much right to want more for her son as we do our daughter.”
“The fuck is you saying? She should be lucky the boy found someone like my Caitiebear. She’s one in a fucking million.” Wait, why the hell am I even arguing about this shit?
“What are you grinning about now Colt? What did you do?” I had a shit-eating grin on my face. “She’s too late; I’d like to see her get him away from my girl.”
KAT
Hee-hee! I barely contained my laughter before leaving his office. I’m getting so good at winding him up these days; it’s like child’s play. Gabriella’s idea worked like magic. It helps to have reinforcement from women who have to put up with the same stuff as I.
I went in search of Cierra to give her the good news. I’d called Todd’s mother and asked for her help. Couldn’t very well use the woman’s name without letting her in on it. She was only too happy to help. She loves her son as much as we love our daughter after all, and just want the two kids to be happy.
We’ve kept in touch ever since they moved away and were well ahead of my husband when it comes to the truth about Todd and Caitlin. Anyone with half a brain cell could see those two were a match made in heaven, everyone except Colt. Then again no one ever accused my husband of having working brain cells. The man’s a cave dwelling ape.
