The SEAL's Secret Heirs
“Not yet.” To her grave disappointment, he snapped the box closed and pocketed it. “You asked to be swept off your feet.”
And then he did exactly that. As he stood, he gathered her up in his arms and lifted her from her seat, holding her against his chest as if he meant to never let go.
She’d be okay with that, too.
The crowd cheered. She noted Hadley clapping out of the corner of her eye as Kyle began climbing the stairs toward the exit, carrying Grace in his strong arms.
Kyle spoke into her ear. “I hope you won’t be disappointed, but you’re missing the rest of the show.”
She shook her head, clinging to Kyle’s amazingly solid shoulders. “I’m not missing anything. This is the best show in town, right here.”
Looked as if she was an excellent judge of character after all.
Once he had her outside, he set her down and pulled her into his embrace for a kiss that was both tender and fierce all at the same time.
When he let go, she saw that a long black stretch limousine had rolled to a stop near them. “What is this?”
“Part of sweeping you off your feet,” Kyle acknowledged. “Now that Maddie has fully recovered, I’m whisking you away on a romantic weekend, just you and me, to celebrate our engagement. But I want to make it official.”
Then he pulled the box from his pocket and slid the huge emerald-cut diamond ring onto her finger. It winked in the moonlight and was the most beautiful thing she’d ever seen. Except for the man she loved. “Tell me this is forever, Kyle.”
He nodded. “Forever. I’m not going anywhere. I’m a part of something valuable. I’m a cattle rancher now with orders pouring in for the calves I’ve helped deliver. The Texas Cattlemen’s Club voted me in as a member earlier today. My daughters are thriving, and I’m going to get the best woman in the world as a wife. Why would I want to leave?”
“Good answer,” she said as the tears flowed again. “But if you did decide you wanted to leave for whatever reason, I’d follow you.”
“You would?” This seemed like news to him for some odd reason.
“Of course. I love you. I know now I could never be happy without you, so...” She shrugged. “Where you go, I go. We’re a team now. Team Wade, four strong. And maybe more after we get the first round out of diapers.”
He laughed softly. “I like the sound of that. Keep talking.”
