As Luck Would Have It

She finally realized what they’d just done, what this could all mean.

How would this change things? Would it ruin whatever they could’ve had?

She looked over at Hawk, feeling his stare, seeing him watch her. He looked content and sleepy, a small smile playing over his lips. Hawk lifted his hand and brushed some hair away from her forehead, his fingers lingering on her cheek, his gaze locked with hers.

“You realize I won’t let you go now?” His voice was low, his words holding so much meaning.

She licked her lips, her throat suddenly so dry.

“You’re mine, Felicity.”

“You look well fucked,” Rebecca said the following morning as Felicity walked into the bakery.

They didn’t have any customers at the moment, and Felicity wanted to avoid the main counter. She walked past Rebecca, feeling her cheeks heat at Rebecca calling it like she saw it, and went into the kitchen, which was still spotless from the day before.

Rebecca followed her in, but then again, Felicity knew she wouldn’t be able to let this go.

“What’s going on?”

Felicity turned around and set her bag on one of the stainless steels tables. “Nothing is going on. I’m just, you know, relaxing.” She sat down on a chair, staring up at her friend.

“You had sex last night. Didn’t you?”

And there went her face getting hot as hell again. “I figured you already knew with the whole ‘you look well fucked’ comment.”

Rebecca folded her arms beneath her breasts and smirked. “Then why do you seem to be in a bit of a mood?”

“I’m not. I’m fine.”

“You don’t look fine.”

Felicity sighed. “I’m fine.” She had snuck out of Hawk’s apartment last night and she was feeling a little guilty. Especially seeing as there wasn’t a way of avoiding him. He literally worked right across the street.

“Was he that good that you’re dumbstruck?” Rebecca chuckled.

“Hawk was amazing. There is no question about how good he was.”

“Then what’s the problem?” Rebecca asked. “You had a great date. You had sex. This is a good thing. Hawk has been wanting you for some time, and I think you need to calm down and go for it. Don’t be so afraid.”

She was surprised by that. “You knew he wanted me?”

Rebecca gave her a “of course I did” look. “It’s obvious.” She waved her hand for Felicity to go on and not change the subject.

“I’m not afraid. Not even a little bit.” She ran her hands down her thighs. Her pussy was sore. They hadn’t just had sex once, but several times. Each time being even better than the last.

“Well, spill the beans.”

“I don’t want to talk about it.” She exhaled, knowing Rebecca wouldn’t leave it be, especially since Felicity was being so dodgy about the whole thing.

“You like him, don’t you?”

“I went on a date with him last night, so of course I like him.”

“No, this is more than that. Something is different about Hawk, isn’t there? You really like him.”

Felicity should have known she wouldn’t have been able to hide how she felt, not from Rebecca. “Look, it was probably just sex to him. I don’t know. I panicked and I ran because I don’t want him kicking me to the curb. I shouldn’t have done either but there we are.” She blew out a breath. “He was so amazing.”

“He touched all the right notes, huh?” Rebecca winked at her and Felicity laughed.

“It really was amazing.” She ran her fingers through her hair. “I don’t know what to do now, though.”

“You will so need to send him over an apology cookie. Seeing as he didn’t get a chance to eat your cookie.”

Felicity rolled her eyes. “I’m going to get changed and ready.”

“Oh, you may hate me,” Rebecca said.

“Huh, what? Why?”

Felicity opened the door to their office, and sitting at Rebecca’s desk was Hawk, a cup of something in his hand, and a pastry in his other.

He looked up at her. “Hello, beautiful.”

“Yeah, Hawk stopped by. He asked if he could, you know, wait for you here. I’m such a good friend that I figured you needed a nudge in the right direction.” Rebecca hugged her from behind. “I’ll be out front if you need me.”

Felicity licked her dry lips, her hands feeling clammy. This wasn’t how she imagined seeing Hawk again would go, not after last night.

“I guess you heard all of that?”

“Yeah, but I didn’t need to hear it to know you snuck out on me and assumed why.”

“You know where I live, why not come to my place?”

He shrugged. “I knew you’d be here for sure. Seemed like the fastest route to get to you.” He put the coffee and pastry on the desk before getting to his feet. “I need to know I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“What? You didn’t do anything wrong.” She looked down for a moment, composing her thoughts. “I’m not used to this, okay? This isn’t about you. Me leaving last night, I—I’m not good with the whole … one-night stand kind of thing. Meaning I’ve never done it. I freaked out and I didn’t want to cause a scene with you, because I didn’t want to look like a total idiot.” She took a deep breath, hoping her nerves wouldn’t get the better of her.
