“Excuse me, miss,” A male voice said.
Mia looked up to see the grim visage of a dark haired man wearing an earpiece. Not a Bluetooth headset, but an actual I’m-a-Secret-Service-agent style earpiece. She wondered if he was hotel security and they were ejecting her from the bar for the too-short dress.
“May I help you?” She asked in her most professional voice—the one she’d been honing answering the phones at Marler Graphic Design Partners.
“My employer would like to speak with you. What is your name, miss?”
“Her name is none of your business, buddy,” Carly put in, also getting a little mouthy during that third margarita.
“Whom do you work for?” Mia asked, elbowing her friend.
“I and my colleagues,” He indicated the other two men standing just behind him in identical dark suits. “Have the privilege of working for the Prince Tamir Malouf of Dubai,”
“That’s a bit far. I’m a Manhattan girl myself but thank you anyway,” Mia said, trying not to roll her eyes.
“What is this some human trafficking racket? You say you’ll take her to meet a prince and then you stuff her in the back of a van?” Carly accused.
“You’ll have to excuse my friend. She watches too many crime shows,” Mia put in.
“Wait! Is he here? Is the Prince here right now?” Lily asked as if star struck.
“Yes, of course,” The first man replied.
“I’ve read about this guy. He’s in town helming his new oil company. He’s really good looking, Mia,” Lily said in a stage whisper.
“Maybe no more margaritas for her,” Mia said to Carly, gesturing to Lily who was obviously a bit past tipsy.
“I am not drunk. This guy is so rich he can hire wingmen, Mia. Look at this. Bodyguards. He’s royalty. Like, like Prince William,” Lily breathed dreamily.
“Thank you anyway,” Mia said firmly and turned on the stool to put her back to the guards.
Within moments, a chilled bottle of Cristal was delivered to the girls.
“We didn’t order this,” Carly protested.
“Compliments of the Prince,” The bartender said. “Your tab has also been taken care of.”
