“So you saw the lady in question as you were going into the child’s room. Then what?”

“Well, she didn’t have those bruises at the time. I’d say those bruises are about three hours old give or take.” I studied her face closely.

“How would you know that?” The cop asked.

“It’s my line of study. I’m going to be a criminal pathologist. As I was saying those are not from the night before, but from a few hours tops.”

“Also those bruises weren’t made by fists but by someone knocking themselves into something. And also because Mr. Dash spent the night in bed in his daughter’s room.”

“And how do you know this?”

“Because I was there…” Oh hell, please don’t let my daddy hear about this. I swallowed hard at their pointed looks. My face had to be beet red because I could feel the heat coming off of it.

“I mean that two minutes after I walked into his daughter’s room he came in behind me to check on her himself and he never left because she called out to him and he got into bed and laid with her.”

They turned their attention back to her. “Ma’am do you know what the penalty is for filing a false report?”

“It’s not, I…”

“Officers, if Ms. Sawyer’s account of the night’s events aren’t enough to convince you, I have eyes and ears all over this place.”

“I’d love to have a look at that if you don’t mind…”

“Fine, maybe I was sleep walking. I’ve been under so much stress lately.” It was obvious from the looks on their faces that they weren’t buying it and I was now convinced more than ever that she was batshit cuckoo.

“Gentlemen I’d get you that tape if you still need it but it’ll have to be when I get back from my holiday. But there is one thing you can do for me before you leave. Please escort my ex-wife off my property.”

“What? We had a deal…”

“You should’ve read the fine print which states that I can terminate that deal anytime I choose, and especially in dire situations. I’d say you calling the cops and lying about me assaulting you is pretty fucking dire. Get out!”

Before they could ask he pulled his phone and showed them the document in question. I guess this nut forgot what she’d signed or she hadn’t taken the time to read it. “Brandon you can’t do this. Where do you expect me to go?”

“Brielle, go get yours and Lily’s stuff ready. The jet should be ready in an hour.” I left the room with Lily after grabbing her from her high chair where she’d been sitting eating this whole time.

I was a little rattled while I packed and not a little bit apprehensive. That was some pretty desperate behavior. And most people when they reach that point of desperation act out in unexpected ways.

What else does she have up her sleeve? How dangerous is she really? And what does that mean for Brandon and Lily, and even me? One too many cop shows on the Discovery channel. I see a crime around every corner.

I shook off the worry once I heard the door closing and figured the cops had taken her away. I know she was gone because I’d heard her through the open door screaming about saying goodbye to her daughter. I guess it was Brandon who slammed the door after that.

I couldn’t even bring myself to feel sorry for her. If she’d not gone to those lengths I probably could’ve drummed up some sympathy for her for losing her family and everything she had, but if this is the person she is, no wonder he wanted her gone.

Brielle

“Are you two ready?” I hadn’t even noticed that he was already dressed in slacks and a button down shirt with the top three buttons undone. “Brielle?” I shook my head to clear it and found him smirking.

“I’m sorry what?” He walked around the bed and stood in front of me. He reached over and cupped my cheek in his palm while staring into my eyes. “I asked you if you were ready.”

Is it possible for someone to make love to you with their eyes? It felt like he’d stripped me naked and laid me out on the bed. How could anyone walk away from something this hot? Now I know she’s certifiable.

I could only nod my head and stare back at him. He smirked again and turned and walked out of the room after picking up his almost three year old daughter from her place on the bed where she was playing with her toys in between trying to strip out of the clothes I’d just changed her into.

I hurried to my room and threw the rest of my stuff in the bag before throwing it over my shoulder and heading out of the room after one last look around to make sure I wasn’t leaving anything behind.
