That person in the background spoke again.

“Prince Kassim just told me to offer you a place to stay in Escana. He said that they will keep you safe from this stalker and your awful family. His words, not mine,” he said hastily. Probably because in the past she had defended her family from any slurs.

No more.

“It’s okay, they are awful. And thank Prince Kassim but I have a place to go. I just have to get there. I need to get rid of this threat first. I can’t have this following me around. I don’t think I’ll ever feel safe.”

“I know, Squirt. We’re not going to let that happen.”

“I hope not. Not sure if I’m more worried about my stalker or my family,” she tried to joke.

“I know who I’d be more afraid of.”

She let out a scoffing noise. Like he feared anything.

“Call when you get here tomorrow, I’ll have Dominic come down and let you guys in through the basement. It will be safer for the princes, right?”

“Learning some tricks from your bodyguard?” he teased. “We will, thanks, Squirt. Are you sure you still want us to come over?”

“Yes, please. Soon you’ll be going back to Escana and I won’t see you again for ages.”

“Well, you could take Prince Kassim up on his offer. Come visit us. Even bring the big guy.”

“Not sure I’d manage to visit Escana without him.”

The door opened and the man in question walked into the room.

“Squirt, go find that man of yours. He should be looking after you.”

“He’s here now.”

Bain plucked the phone from her hand. He took a quick look at the screen. “Bain here.” He grunted. “Yep. I got her.” Then he ended the call.

“I might have wanted to say goodbye,” she told him

“I did it for you.”

She rolled her eyes. He studied her for a long moment. Then he turned away. She thought he was going to leave her alone. That’s what she wanted, right? Some peace and quiet on her own?

Then he started rummaging around in one of her drawers. He came back with a bikini and held it out to her. “Let’s go for a swim.”

“You swim?”

“Yep.”

“Huh.”

He quirked an eyebrow. “What? You thought I’d sink like a tank? Did you forget I was a Navy SEAL?”

She bit her lip. Whoops. That was maybe a bit rude. “Sorry. I’m not sure I feel like a swim.”

“Be good for you. Clear your mind. Stop you from thinking.”

She sighed and rubbed her temples. “Not sure that’s possible.”

“Could give you a spanking. Have the same effect.”

She glared and then sat up and snatched up her bathing suit. “I’ll go for a swim.”
