She rolled her eyes. Like he’d been waiting for her to ask. He started pulling out and thrusting his way back inside her, and all other thoughts fled her body.

She gasped for breath, meeting his thrusts with each push of her hips. His movements grew faster, and she clenched around the plug in her ass. Then he reached around and flicked her clit, and, almost immediately, she found herself coming.

“Yes, baby. That’s it. Jesus, you’re squeezing me so tightly. I . . . can’t . . . last!” He roared the last word as he pressed deep inside her and came.

Twenty minutes later, she listened to Logan’s heavy breathing as he slept. Rain pelted down on the roof, the steady rhythm was actually quite soothing. Logan held her against him, her head resting on his chest. She closed her eyes, knowing she needed to sleep. She didn’t think she actually would manage to, not with everything that had happened.

She sent a quick prayer up for Max, hoping that he was all right.

Then darkness closed around her, and, surprisingly, she slept.

He was in the biggest shit-hole imaginable. Max felt his stomach bubble with tension. He shouldn’t be here. Taking this job had been a mistake. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly to fight back the surge of panic. He and the rest of the team were waiting for darkness to truly fall before they infiltrated the rebel camp.

Christ, he couldn’t believe he was deep in the desert of fucking Libya because some idiot had decided to ignore all the travel warnings issued by the US State Department. And now he was going to risk his life to rescue the dickwad, who, luckily for him, had a rich daddy who was bankrolling the mission.

Max was glad Savannah had no idea where he was. He didn’t want her worrying about him. He impatiently waited for the signal to go in. The sooner they got this over, the sooner he could go home and hug his wife.

And he wouldn’t be letting her go anytime soon.

Chapter Thirteen

He jogged over and picked up the ringing phone in the stables. Cell phone reception out here was patchy at best, so they’d put a landline in the stables as well as having one in the house.

“Yeah?” Logan answered.

“It’s Jake. Thought I might catch you out here.”

Two days had passed since Savannah had received the letter. Nothing else had happened. No phone calls, no more notes. But Savannah was growing more and more tense. So was he. They were both walking around on tenterhooks, waiting for something to happen.

Not for the first time, Logan wished Max was here. He didn’t like leaving her, not even for a minute, even though he knew she wouldn’t appreciate him hovering. Savannah was the strongest person he knew. She met each challenge head-on and she didn’t back down.

“What have you found out?” he bit out. He’d been waiting for this call. It had taken all of his control not to storm over to Atkinson’s place and demand to know if he’d sent that letter to Savannah.

“Got the report back on the letter. No prints on it other than yours and Savannah’s, but I expected that.”

“What about Atkinson? Did you talk to him?”

“Yeah. He denies it was him.”

“Well, of course, he would fucking deny it,” Logan snapped. “He’s hardly going to just come clean.”

“I know that Logan,” Jake said patiently. “But he’s also got an alibi.”

“What?”

“He’s been away in Chicago for the last four days. He showed me his plane tickets. Now, I’d need to check out his alibi to be sure, but I believe he was telling the truth, and my instincts are rarely wrong.”

He ground his teeth together. He’d wanted it to be Atkinson because that would have been so easy. Then he’d have a target. He could have ensured that Savannah was safe. Not knowing who was threatening her was killing him.

“Has Stanton had any visitors, any contact with his son?” Could it be the son? Apparently, he’d had no idea what his father was up to but maybe he was a good liar.

“No, no visitors at all other than his lawyer.”

That surprised him. But it was not even close to what Stanton deserved.

“All right, Jake, I . . . what the hell?” he muttered as he spotted Trace riding in like the devil was on his ass.
