“So she’s not angry at me?”

“No, she loves you very much. Even when the rest of us had written you off as a junkie, she didn’t give up on you.”

She winced when he called her a junkie.

“I’m not, you know,” she whispered.

“Not what?”

“I’m not a junkie. Before all of this, the only encounter I’d had with drugs was a puff of my boyfriend’s joint.”

“That so?” he asked skeptically.

Miller let out a deep breath. “Where is Tilly?”

“Dylan has taken her home to her father’s ranch.”

“Dylan?” Miller asked with surprise. “Dylan is her boyfriend?”

Rogan frowned. He didn’t think Dylan knew Miller. “Yes, you know him?”

“No, it’s just, Tilly talked about him. Oh, I’m so happy for her. Is he good to her?”

“Dylan would lay down his life for her. He worships the ground she walks on.” Rogan felt a twinge of jealousy. If he had a woman like Tilly, he’d watch her all the time. He’d always be worried something would happen to her.

Falling in love was a weakness he couldn’t afford.

“Good. Tilly deserves happiness.”

“I wouldn’

t think you’d care, considering you threw her to the wolves.”

“I didn’t mean to,” she said with a stricken look on her face.

“Why don’t you tell me what happened?” he said, sitting back.

Miller licked her lips while he tried desperately not to notice how full and plump they were. He had no business noticing things like that.

“I don’t quite know where to start.”

“Start with why you told Iker about the money Javier Cabeza was taking from him.”

“That was my way in,” she said. “I had no idea it would come back on Tilly, I swear.”

“What do you mean?”

“I was looking for a quick way into the gang. I figured if I had information that they would be interested in then I could sort of ingratiate myself to them.”

“You seriously thought they would be grateful?” he asked incredulously. “Did you think they’d just open their arms to you?”

She winced and he realized she had thought exactly that.

“I was desperate.”

“So you told them that Cabeza had been taking money from them for years. Did you even think about the consequences of that?” he asked.

“Javier was already in jail so I figured he was safe.”
