A loud moan escaped her throat and she pressed her hands against his chest to steady herself as she ground against him.

As she clenched around him more pleasure jolted through him, eliciting a groan.

Suddenly, her hair escaped the pins that had been holding it up in a bun, and the length of her auburn locks twisted out until her hair fanned wildly around her shoulders. He gazed at her, the sight of her in the throes of passion arousing him even more.

She tossed her head back, moaning loudly. He was on the edge, his body drowning in pleasure that made it hard to breathe.

Another wave of pleasure gripped him, and he came hard and fast. Heather spasmed around him, and when she started panting he knew that she had climaxed, too.

With one last cry she collapsed on top of him and he held her close, his heart hammering so hard he guessed that she could hear it.

“That was...” She inhaled sharply. “You’re amazing.”

“So are you.” He grinned and kissed her damp forehead.

She went silent for a moment and then murmured, “Gary thinks we’re still doing this. So, he isn’t a liar after all.”

“He was a liar when he first told the press that we were still together,” he pointed out. “Is he sure we’re still together?”

“I don’t think he has any proof, but...” Her voice trailed off.

“But what?” he prompted gently.

“He says from the way you look at me, it’s obvious that something is going on.”

“Oh.” Was he really that transparent? If her own ex-husband could see it, then there really was no denying it. No matter how much he distrusted her, he was so drawn to her that the people around them could tell just by looking at him.

“I don’t know how we’ll be able to keep this from the board if Gary managed to figure it out.” She sighed.

He grimaced. Everett was the most esteemed member of the board, and even though he might not know about the extent of their relationship Simon had told him that they’d spent the night together after the reunion  . But if he told Heather that Everett knew about that, there would be all kinds of questions he didn’t want to answer. If he told her what Everett knew, it would only lead to him having to tell her about Everett’s suspicions that she was a spy for their rival. That was too awkward and dangerous a conversation to have right now.

“We just have to lay low for a while, until this blows over,” he said.

“And we still need to have that talk,” she said, and then chuckled. “Maybe without the sex.”

“We will. But this has been a tough week for you. So, I’m going to give you some time to sort through your feelings and we can talk next week if you’re up to it.”

“I’ll be up to it,” she said sleepily. “Thank you, Simon.”

He slipped out from under her and gently helped her lie back down on the sofa.

Her eyes were closed, and her face was relaxed. Their lovemaking must have worn her out, because she was now sound asleep.

As gently as he could he pushed a stray lock of hair out of her face, unable to resist the urge to touch her. To soothe her and protect her from everything.

No. He had to shake that. Had to get rid of every protective instinct he had for her and ruthlessly protect his company.

Needing to clear his head, Simon headed into the bathroom to dispose of the condom and get cleaned up.

When he stepped back out, he found that she was still fast asleep on the sofa.

His gaze fell on the handbag on the coffee table. He’d given in to temptation and had sex with her. It didn’t matter how mind-blowing the sex was, he had to focus on the most important task. Discovering the truth.

As silently as he could he opened her handbag and slowly started to rifle through it, looking for any evidence of her potential deception.

A loud buzz of her phone startled him, and he turned to glance at her to make sure she was still sleeping.

Heather stirred, her eyes flickered open, and then her gaze landed on him.

She sat up, rubbing the stiffness out of her shoulders. “What’re you doing with my bag?”

“Uh...” Simon pulled her cell phone out of her handbag. “Sounds like you got a text message. I wasn’t sure if it was your parents or something to do with work. I figured you’d want to read it.”
