Jared only tried to breach the inner sanctum once, but he was banished before he even got his foot in the door.

I didn’t miss the look that passed between he and Belle though, and went on to tease her mercilessly about her swinging dick comment the first day we met.

Had that only been a few weeks ago? So much had happened so quickly it was unreal.

Chapter 6

JACE

“You sure they’re doing that bro?” I listened to Jared on the other line and wasn’t sure if I should laugh or be angry.

I kinda expected it though, the last two days she’s been showing me in her own way that she was no pushover.

Not that I wanted her to be, but I needed her to understand that there were certain boundaries that she dare not cross.

There was some shit going on here that even I didn’t understand fully. Like this need to have her near me at all times, it was fucked.

Now I find myself watching mom and dad more intently. Studying his moves, and I’d be damned if he isn’t doing the same thing.

I never really paid much attention before, always took it for granted I guess. But my dad hovered over my mom like an avenging sentinel and she just flourished under all that attention.

Shit, she still blushed when he whispered in her ear, which on a side note is gross, but which I also have come to learn is beautiful.

I guess that saying ‘unless you walk a mile in my shoes you wouldn’t understand’ is on point.

“They left already?”

“Yep, I’m watching the car sneak down the drive with the lights off. Mom and dad are sleeping already so she’s safe there.”

She might be safe there but her little ass wasn’t safe from me. It’s a good thing I’d asked her brother to keep an eye out.

I’d planned on crashing her little get together, but she had conned her parents into making Jared go out tonight instead of inviting us over.

We’d hung out for a little bit at the Vista Lanes and then had dinner at this out of the way shack that served twenty dollar lamb burgers, but the shit was so worth it.

Then I’d told the boys to be on call because there was a fifty-fifty chance that the girls will be doing some dumb shit before the night was over.

“Meet me at the place.” I called Shane because he’d said he wanted in and then I had to call a few of the others because they were there when we were discussing this shit and wanted in.

The guys thought we should scare the crap out of them, but I had other ideas. Midnight, and she snuck out of her parents’ house? She had no idea what she’d set herself up for.

SIAN

“Wheee, we’re free.” I sped the car up a notch once we cleared my driveway.

It’s the first time I’d done anything this brazen and I can’t believe I’d actually gotten away with it.

After Belle had sworn that she was over her fear of what she now called the nonexistent ghost, I’d talked the others into going along with my plan

I wasn’t really expecting to see a ghost, but I just thought it would be something fun to do since Belle and Tammy didn’t seem to have had much of a childhood.

I mean I’ve never done anything this bold before, but my girls and I used to get up to all kinds of stuff back home.

These girls needed to live a little; they’ve been living under the shadow of the mean girls for way too long.

“Come on Belle take the wheel.”

“Are you insane, why do you think I have to be driven everywhere? I can’t drive worth shit.”

We all had a good laugh at that one and then the dares started.

Pretty soon Belle had her head out the sunroof and Tammy and Cassandra were leaning out the windows, hands outstretched as they yelled into the night.

I was laughing so hard at their antics that I almost had to pull over.

“Okay girls let’s go get ourselves a ghost sighting. Cass you have the camera ready?”

“Oh crap.” Belle dropped back into her seat and covered her face. “Come on Belle there’s nothing to be afraid of.” I slowed to a crawl.

“If you’re really freaked out I’ll turn back.”

“No, no, I can do this, there’s no such thing as ghost.” She gulped and even in the moonlight I could see that she was paler.

“No I’m turning around.”

“Don’t you dare, it’s time I stopped believing that stupid legend anyway.”

I eyed her to make sure she was really okay and then floored it. My heart started to race the faster I went and I had one second to question the stupidity of what I was doing as the speedometer rose to ninety.

“Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. That does not look like a ghost.” No, what it looked like was Jace, Jared and their pals.

They were lined off in the street with their cars behind them, just casually lounging as if waiting patiently for us to show up.

I stepped on the brakes and gave some serious thought to reversing. That idea got nixed real quick when Jace broke away and started walking towards us.

“Oh boy Sian, he looks steamed.”

“Uh-huh.” My voice was barely more than a whisper as I watched him and then my brother the snitch following.

He came over and opened my door.

“Out.” I looked at Belle in the passenger seat but she had her own thing going on with my brother and was no help. Maybe I can play this off.

“Hey Jace fancy seeing you here.” Oh damn. He pulled me out the car and then stuck his head inside.

“Drive and follow me Tammy.” He pulled me over to the phantom and all but threw me into the seat before buckling me in.

The others got into their rides and we were soon leading a cavalcade down to the beach.

The others pretty much parked the same place, but Jace kept going. Until we were separated by a wall and what looked like mini sea grape trees.
