She took her time answering and I guess she had given more thought to whatever she was dealing with since last night, enough to give me a little more than she had been.

“I promise you that it has nothing to do with me.” That made me squint at her questioningly.

“Come again.” She sighed and pushed at my shoulders to be let down, which I ignored, but I did walk over and sat with her on my lap.

“Tell me what you mean.”

“I mean that what’s bothering me isn’t really my issue, it’s more about a friend and what it might do to them.”

“And this thing, is something you feel you have to keep from me.”

“Well for now anyway, just until I know what I’m going to do with what I know.” She fidgeted after saying that like she’d said too much already, when in reality she hadn’t told me shit.

“Babe, that’s not how we work, no secrets. I’m giving you one more day to get your mind straight and then you’re going to tell me what the fuck is going on.

We’re not starting this shit, next thing you know we’ll both be married to fucking strangers because none of us are talking and you’re keeping secrets and shit. That make sense to you?”

“Must you always be so dramatic? It’s just one thing...”

“Every fucking thing starts with just one little thing, we’re not doing that shit so you better make up your mind to tell me the truth.

And remember, this is your husband to be, the man you’re going to spend the rest of your life with, you decide here and now if you want to have that kind of fucked up relationship.”

I got one of her long drawn out sighs like I was annoying her ass, whatever.

“Jace I promise you it’s nothing to get all hot and bothered about.”

“Not the point babe, you have one day to tell me what the fuck is up and if I hear one word about you being involved in anything it’s going to be your ass.”

I kissed her after laying down the law so she wouldn’t harp me to death. She really is mom to a T, damn.

I saw Mandy and her crew heading to the field but didn’t pay them too much attention. I noticed how she glanced over at Sian a few times, but that didn’t raise my hackles any more than normal so I left it alone.

Sian was having a very intense conversation with Cassandra at this point and they moved away. Huh, was that the problem, something to do with Cassandra?

I still had yet to figure out that problem on my own front. I wasn’t sure what I could do if anything. As soon as I’d found out what I had, it was as if I suddenly felt this responsibility for her.

I happened to catch Mandy’s look this time as it was directed at the two girls and the venom was hard to miss. “Shit!”

***

SIAN

Something was bothering her; did she know? Could that explain her attitude towards Mandy, was it more than just high school bullying that made her hate the other girl so passionately? I hope not.

I can’t imagine how that would feel, to know your dad was cheating on your mom. Though she kept insisting she was okay and nothing was bothering her. Now I knew what Jace felt when I did the same to him.

I did get her to admit that there was something on her mind, but it turned out to be something entirely different from what I’d believed.

Then I remembered her asking me about Maggie once before and her explanation that she was just adjusting to sharing her parents after being an only child for so many years made sense.

I forgot all about it when I went off to class. There was a heavy air of excitement throughout the school; even the teachers were excited about the big game.

Mandy for her part, seemed relaxed and happier than I’d seen her since coming here. It made me doubt what I thought I’d seen.

In the light of day, it didn’t even make sense. Why would she go after a man old enough to be her father after all?

She was young and beautiful and could have any guy she wanted, and besides she was still trying to win Jace back so it stood to reason that she wouldn’t be fooling around with someone else, right.

That wasn’t my favorite reason, not the one I would’ve picked, but at least it freed up my mind from the guilt I’d been carrying.

Of course there was a reasonable explanation for what I saw last night.

I sailed through the rest of the day, riding high on the contagious excitement that was in the air.

By lunchtime, I had forgotten all about it, and a smiling and laughing Cassandra helped me to put it all out of my mind.

I wasn’t expecting to be snatched up and dragged across the room by a mad person, to the cheers and jeers of our friends.

Chapter 5

JACE

“Where are we going?” She laughed and tried to keep up.

“No questions baby, just follow where I lead.” I pulled her along to the parking lot and my car.

I drove the few minutes to my house in half the time and pulled her into the house and up to my room.

“I thought you weren’t supposed to do this before the game?” She started kicking off her shoes as I attacked her jeans.

My hand was on her pussy before she had one foot clear. “This is going to be fast and rough babe.”

She covered my mouth in that greedy way of hers that makes me want to swallow her whole.

Our tongues danced while I teased her with my fingers until she got wet on my hand. I backed her up to the wall and dropped my own jeans before driving into her.

“Ahhhhhh...” her scream got trapped in my lungs.

“Shit, no, wait, baby.” I walked over to the bed with her legs and arms wrapped securely around me.
