Mike

Another long day. I look over at Carrie with her body hovered over the computer, entering the last of the codes I need written. I think back to that day a year ago when I hired her. I was under pressure from Ryder, my partner, to hire someone capable – and someone I wouldn’t hit on.

At first, I thought Carrie was the perfect person for the job. And one year later, she has proven herself more than capable. But my attraction for her these last few months has been something I haven’t been able to control. And that bothers me. I’m used to being in control… in every situation.

I’m known as a player. I feel no need to turn down a beautiful woman. And why would I? If we are both into it and we both understand it’s nothing serious – then by all means, I plan to have my fun. But a night with Carrie – that’s just a line I can’t cross.

“Okay, I think that’s it.” Carrie sits up and stretches her back. Her arms come up over her head and her breasts press against her shirt. She finally took off her jacket an hour or so ago. I rarely see her without it. But looking at her now, it’s probably good she’s always wearing that ugly, boxy thing.

As she stretches her sore muscles, she moans and I can’t stop my arousal. My cock presses tightly against the zipper of my pants. I don’t know what’s come over me lately. My extracurricular night life has slowed down. I’m just not interested anymore-not interested until I get around her.

Now I look for ways to spend more time at the office. And more often than not, I look for ways to have Carrie here with me.

Honestly, her boxy jackets and her hair in a knot on top of her head has started to grow on me.

But even if these new emotions are taking over – I know I can’t make a move. I can’t fuck this up. She really is the best assistant we’ve had. She was taking night classes in office management when she applied. And we took over paying for her classes – she’s that good.

“I appreciate you staying again. I will quit taking advantage of you by making you work late all the time,” I promise her.

A flush creeps across her cheeks. “I don’t mind.”

I lightly squeeze her shoulder. “Come on, I’ll walk you out to your car.”

She puts on her jacket and slings her purse over her shoulder. “You don’t have to do that. I’m right by the door.”

I put my hand at the small of her back because I can’t seem to keep my hands to myself. “I know, but I will feel much better knowing you made it to your car safely.”

When she drives away, my body is tense from being next to her all evening. I lock up the office and go to the pub across the street, needing to unwind before going home.

“What can I get you?” the waitress, Jasmine, asks me as she sits down on my leg. Instinctively, my hand slides around her hip and tightens around her tiny waist as her butt bone digs into my leg. This is a game we’ve played in the past. Yes, I’ve taken her home before. She was a good lay and she knew what the deal was. Just a night of fun. With her, I was able to get a release, without dealing with commitment or a relationship.

During the day, this pub is a place for business people to meet up and eat while working. And Jasmine is a perfect, professional waitress during the day. At night, it becomes a bar. And she becomes more forward. Six months ago, I would be sitting here picking which woman I wanted to take home with me. But tonight, like the last several months, I don’t have any interest in taking her or any other woman home.

I help her up from my lap with a smile. “Jack and Coke.”

She looks taken aback, but recovers quickly. “Be right back, Mike.”

I’m forty-two years old and my fast lifestyle is finally catching up with me. I’ve had my share of women, but lately, it’s not enough. Ryder and I opened our security company a few years ago and we haven’t stopped since. We continue to grow every year, taking on more clients and more assignments, anything from security systems to personal protection with bodyguards.

I’ve watched Ryder find love and I have to admit I’m jealous. Watching him and Sierra together makes me realize what I don’t have. And even my good friend Brody and one of our employees, Charlie found love with one another. I never thought I would see the day, but I’m ready to settle down. I’m ready for what they have.
