Knocked up by the Mechanic

Wyatt and I have vowed never to go back to Wexler, but recently he decided there’s no reason we can’t bring Wexler to us.

“Happy Birthday, Bitch!” Gianna says as she crushes me in hug.

“Okay, the food and the wine already have won me over,” Alexandra gushes.

“And holy shit, girl—the men!” Gianna says.

“Wait’til you see the cars,” Stefano adds.

Ava-Kat is already perched on her Aunt Livia’s hip and deep into a narrative about keeping secrets.

“And Dada said if I can be a big girl and keep Mama’s birthday a surprise, then I can go to the garage with him and sit in the Lamborghini. And that’s my favorite car!” she gushes.

“I am so surprised!” I tell them all with a hand on my chest.

Wyatt is uncorking the wine and unpacking an elaborate spread. When all of our disposable glasses are full, my husband makes a toast, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

“To my beautiful wife Harley, who makes things happen,” he says.

“To Mama!” Ava-Kat yells and toasts me with her juice box.

“I can’t believe you guys actually live in Paradise,” Alexandra intones taking a sip of her wine.

“Every day with Harley is a day spent in heaven,” Wyatt says. He’s looking at me with those dark eyes full of desire. Wyatt Dunne can fix anything that’s broken, but more importantly, he knows how to jump start my heart and keep the sparks perpetually flying.

“Oh, once upon a time, I was too prissy for you to talk to,” I say to Wyatt in jest.

“You were never too prissy. You were always too dangerous.”

“Good thing I’m totally tame now. I even driver slower,” I tell my friends.

Wyatt raises his eyebrow and takes a sip of red wine. He adjusts Leo to another knee and kisses his head.

“We’ve still got a way to go, Mrs. Dunne,” he says deliciously.

After a gorgeous lunch, Ava-Kat and Livia disappear to the snack bar and reappear with an elaborate cake with candles. We sing and eat chocolate cake with berries. Stefano starts to clean up, pointing out we can’t hike down on a dark trail. Wyatt puts Leo in the pack and pulls me in for a full kiss on the mouth.

“Happy Birthday, Harley. Here’s to another perfect year together.”

I kiss him back and look into his intense eyes that have gone soft while he looks at me.

“I love you, Wyatt Dunne, you’re the best thing that ever happened to me.”
