My Mom's Ex-Husband (The Forbidden Fun)
I snuggle and put my head on his broad shoulder.
“Of course it’s okay,” I say soothingly. “I’m traumatized too, so we’ll take as long as we need. No rush.”
Then, we settle into a comfortable silence as the TV runs. I’m not sure what’s happened to my mom, to be honest. Last I heard, Samantha did end up marrying Georgie Fits, and she’s still working at a hair salon on the outskirts of town. However, Hunter and I aren’t ready to interact with her yet, and that’s just the way things are.
The movie reaches a slow spot and Hunter gets up to putter around in the kitchen. I smile secretively. My boyfriend is an amazing cook, and he loves to concoct new dishes all the time. I wouldn’t be surprised if in thirty minutes, we have a gourmet dinner laid out on the table.
Sure enough, within half an hour, there’s a juicy steak sizzling on a plate, in addition to collard greens and some yummy mac and cheese.
“Wow,” I marvel, staring at the feast. “What did I do to deserve this?”
“Everything,” Hunter growls, kissing my hair. “You are an amazing woman, Faith, and you deserve the best. In fact, I’d love to make you mine permanently.”
I smile and turn to look at him, but he’s no longer standing. Instead, the gorgeous man is kneeling next to me with an open ring box in his hand.
“Oh my God!” I exclaim, eyes wide. “Is that what I think it is?” A huge diamond sparkles from inside, throwing glimmers all throughout our dining room.
“Yes, sweetheart,” he replies in a low, emotional tone. “Will you marry me, Faith Randall?” he asks. “You’ve given me so much already, and made my life complete when I didn’t even know what was missing. Please say you’ll be mine.”
I lean down to kiss him with tears in my eyes.
“Yes! Yes, I’d love to become Mrs. Hunter Stockton.”
With that, Hunter stands and slides the beautiful ring onto my finger. It settles perfectly, as if it’s always belonged there. But now, I have my own incredible news to reveal.
“I have something to tell you,” I say with a secret smile. “I was going to wait, but maybe we should keep the good news flowing.”
A dark flush colors my fiancé’s high cheekbones.
“What is it, sweetheart?”
I smile coyly at him.
“I’m pregnant!” I announce. “We’re going to have another baby!”
Hunter immediately leans forward to claim my mouth, and there’s passion mixed with gratitude in his touch.
“Holy smokes,” he breathes. “This is perfect. A wedding, a wife, and a second child too. How did I get so lucky?”
Giggling, I clasp him close.
“I’m the lucky one,” I murmur. “I have you, and that’s what matters most.” After all, maybe this incredible man was once married to my mother, but it doesn’t matter anymore. What matters is that we’ve pledged our love to one another, and we have two children to show for it too. We’re a family, and with full hearts and happy smiles, this is the way things should be.
