“Let’s go back before Sienna gets suspicious,” Lucas said.

“Yeah. This lasted one and a half minutes more than we planned,” Chloe added.

They’d planned this down to the minute? Smiling, I followed them into the living room. I already loved these kids.

As the evening wound down, it was obvious Sienna was hoping to spend the entire weekend with Lucas. It was adorable watching her fight with herself over not wanting to encroach in his personal space too much, but at the same time wanting to spend as much time with him as possible.

“Do you have time for lunch tomorrow? And then maybe a movie?” she suggested.

“I can do lunch, but then I’m seeing some friends.”

“And Sunday?”

“Sunday I have plans, but dinner is free.”

Sienna pouted. “And I thought you’d come especially for us.”

“You too. But since I’m here, I’m also going to catch up with my friends.”

She was adorable, all frazzled and doting on him. “Okay. See you at lunch, then.”

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Winston

Sienna was still a little out of it when we returned to the apartment.

“What did you think about tonight?” she asked.

“Best Christmas dinner I’ve ever been too. Don’t tell Mom that. We just don’t have an extended family, so she always invites friends, but it’s not the same. Love the clan. Chloe and Lucas are great kids.”

“I know, right?”

“They love you very much.”

“I—wait a second, how do you know?”

“It’s obvious.”

“You’re hiding something.”

I rolled my eyes. “They might have given me the talk.”

“Holy shit. They did? When?”

“When I went to the kitchen.”

“They learned that from me. We grilled Christopher too.”

“They told me that. It was fun.”

“I can’t believe he didn’t tell anyone he was coming. And that he’s only here for two days. I already miss him.”

“We’re seeing him on both days,” I reminded her.

She pressed her lips together in a cute, mutinous expression. “That doesn’t mean I can’t miss him already. What do you want to do? It’s not so late.”

“I have an idea. Why don’t we watch one of those Christmas movies you like so much?”
