She said, “Where are we?”

As they walked up the front steps of the house, she saw the realtor’s key box on the front porch and started to get an idea about what was going on. Still, she didn’t say anything. She continued to look at him, waiting for him to speak.

He pressed a code on the box and retrieved a key. She stood there numbly as he unlocked the door. When he walked inside, he turned around and grabbed her hand, tugging her inside.

Taking her from room to room, he showed her some of the features. It was slightly smaller than his current house, but laid out more efficiently. It had five bedrooms, three baths, a pool, and, thankfully, a whirlpool tub in the master bathroom.

“So,” he said, once they had completed the tour. “What do you think?”

“It’s really pretty. Why are we here though?” she asked, needing clarification.

“I thought,” he said, pausing for a moment to look at her, “that perhaps if you were amenable to the idea, that you’d want live here with me so we could spend the rest of our lives together.”

She felt her mouth drop open. Since they’d gotten back together, he’d been incredibly open about his feelings. They hadn’t talked much about the future though. Knowing that he loved and trusted her had been more than enough.

“Are you sure about this?” she asked, hope bubbling up inside her.

Nodding, he said, “I’m sure about you. The rest of this is all negotiable. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Live together, travel, get old, maybe have a couple of kids. You’re everything to me, Chloe.”

Chloe felt a grin spread across her face. Nodding, she said, “Yes, to all of that, then.”

He pulled her to him, then leaned down to press his lips against hers. Sighing, she wrapped her arms around his neck and lost herself in the kiss. When they separated, sometime later, she said, “So, kids, huh?”

“Maybe,” he said, brushing his lips against her forehead. “We’ll see what the future holds.”

Bringing his head back down for another kiss, she smiled against his lips and then said, “I can’t wait.”
