“Yes.”

“You’re sure?”

“Yes, Buck.”

He smiled. “Your trust means a lot to me. Now, I need to ask you something else.”

“Go ahead.”

“Will you come to Colorado with me?”

“When?”

Buck pulled out his phone. “We have to be in the air by six tomorrow night. If I can get us a flight directly into Gunnison, it’ll buy us another five hours or so.”

“Twenty-four hours.”

“That’s right.”

“There are things that need to be taken care of.”

“Which of those things would require you staying here?”

I rubbed my temples. “I don’t know.” Was there any reason I couldn’t leave? What the hell else was I going to do if I didn’t go with Buck? Sit here, or wherever Decker stuck me, all the while feeling trapped? Hell, no. “What if I need to come back?”

“We’ll work it out.”

I knew Jinx would offer to stay with me, but in my gut, I trusted Buck more. I would also feel safer if I got the hell out of DC. Until Jinx or someone else figured out who’d killed my aunt and her housekeeper, I’d be afraid

of my own shadow, and I wasn’t the kind of person who lived my life in fear.

“Where would I stay?”

“On my family’s ranch. With me.”

I raised a brow, and he smiled.

“There’s a house separate from the main house. You can stay there.”

“How will you protect me, then?”

Buck smiled again. “I didn’t say I wouldn’t be staying there with you.”

“All right. I’ll go.”

A huge smile split Buck’s face. “Good.”

He led me back out to the main room. Decker was sitting at the breakfast bar, working on his laptop.

“This your spread?” he asked Buck, who looked over his shoulder.

“Not mine. My family’s.”

“Is this right?” he asked, pointing to something on the screen.

“Yes, sir.”

“Fifty thousand acres in a revocable trust.”
