“I don’t have any horror stories but going to school full time and helping take care of my sisters because my parents have health problems and that kept me away from chasing boys.”

“That’s good. What happened to your parents?”

“They moved to Florida. My father broke his hip in a motorcycle accident when I was fifteen and my mother has always been sickly. Their bodies couldn’t handle the cold anymore, so they moved as soon as my youngest sister turned eighteen.”

“What about your family?” she asks.

It’s tragic, and I never mentioned it to my readers because it’s not something I prefer to talk about, but Darcy’s special to me even if she doesn’t know it. “My parents died a few years ago in a car accident. My father drank like a fish and decided to take my mom out on a joy ride. They were bombed when they crashed off the mountain side. I loved them even though they had their problems. I don’t have any siblings, and I have some distant family I don’t deal with.”

“Any reason why you’re not close to the others?”

“Well, they didn’t want anything to do with my parents when they were alive and when I got famous they came flying out of the woodwork, looking to be my best friends. I don’t have time for people like that. I wish them the best, but I have a very few select people I associate with and some I would truly consider my family.”

“That’s rough. I have my sisters, but that’s about it. I love my parents, but we’re not close. I don’t have besties unless my sisters count because I don’t have time for more,” she confesses.

I don’t have many people in my life by choice. I want to know more about her. Every single thing.

I run my hands over hers, squeezing them gently. “So you’re a model, I see. Tell me more about the woman who has already captivated me.”

She blushes so prettily, I just want to kiss her, so I do. “Um…so about me…yes, I model, but I really like to act. I love the stage, not film, though. There’s something freeing knowing that I’m performing for a live audience. I’ve been doing it for four years now. Senior year in high school I got bitten by the acting bug and couldn’t stop myself.” She smiles, looking embarrassed, but I am fascinated.

“Where do you call home?” Soon it’s going to be with me.

“Chicago. My sisters and I share an apartment there while I work in Chicago’s Theatre District.”

“Are you waiting for your big break?” I ask, wondering if I’m going to have to move to New York so she can perform on Broadway.

“No. I’ve had a couple prominent roles, but I take the small parts as well. The modeling helps pay the bills, so I do a photoshoot two to three times a month. It’s not that much, but my sisters and I share a place, so it makes it a lot cheaper.

“Damn, so I really messed it up for you?” Not that it matters anyway because I plan to take care of her for the rest of our lives, not that I’d tell her that. I don’t want her to get overwhelmed with my demands. All in good time.

“Yes and no. That guy was too handsy and a real asshat. I couldn’t wait to get away from him.”

I’m mentally thinking of all the ways I could dispose of him in my woods. I wouldn’t tarnish the lake but bringing back that wolf pack sounds like a good idea.

“If he ever comes near you again, I might have to kill him,” I admit.

“You’re so sexy when you’re territorial, Mr. Lake.”

“I’m glad you think so because I plan to always be that way.” I kiss her tenderly and pull down the sheet from her body. Slowly we join again and this time I don’t disappoint. Darcy comes hard on my cock to the point we both fall into a peaceful sleep.

Chapter Four

Bennett

I wake up with my sleeping beauty in my arms; she’s letting out the softest snore that’s absolutely adorable. We haven’t been sleeping long, but that afternoon delight wore us both out. I get up and decide to start dinner because I’m starving and I’m sure she is too. I’d already taken out a roast which I planned to make into two meals, but now that I’ve got my woman here it will be a great dinner. I slip on some clothes because cooking naked isn’t the smartest thing to do. Besides, I can’t ruin the body she thoroughly enjoyed looking at. Fuck, Darcy makes me want to hit the gym so I can keep this muscular physique.

I’ll do whatever it takes to get her to stay. Hell, how do I convince her to move back to Texas with me? Chicago is so damn far, and I can’t just give up my ranch. It would take a lot of effort. And no offense to the Windy City, I’m not moving to somewhere with shitty weather when I have a beautiful place here if I want the freezing cold almost all year long.
