Turns out, the Fed’s encryption was standard issue and after a few tries, I got my ransomware foot in the door so-to-speak. After I crippled their systems, I used a brute force attack to get in and create a message that would upload as soon as they got their systems up and running again. I wrote the program quickly and added in a blinking photo of the six positive tests. I wondered for a second if Rafa would be mortified, but then asked myself, have you met your husband?

Rafa would be thrilled, he would be ecstatic, he’d probably crash his car trying to get home too fast.

I sent him a text acting totally innocent.

- Is your lunch break over?

- Heading back as we speak. Any news?

- Your Rags stock went up again today.

- Hmm. Kk. See you after work, ?.

I had all the computers blast the Daddy Shark line of Baby Shark on a loop while they flashed the photo of my tests. All the computers that had their sound on anyway. He didn’t get fired and he made it home safe. Not the snazziest hack of my life, but perhaps the most joyful one.

Rafa made it home in record time. I heard him gunning down the cul de sac and his brakes screeching as he slammed the car into a parking spot. He leapt over our hedge and practically tackled me to the ground as I met him halfway down the porch steps.

“Is it real? Is it true? The test came out positive?” He interrogated me and grabbed my head and kissed me full on the mouth.

“Yes, baby, we’re pregnant,” I told him through tears. Rafa was shedding more than me and his face was wet, but his eyes were shining bright full of unrestrained happiness.
