My intention had been to go home after that, but instead of getting off on Interstate 84 towards Mt. Hood, I’d continued north until I hit the Interstate that took me straight into the heart of Seattle. I’d avoided the hotel that Ronan and the rest of the crew were staying at since Matty was back in the hospital for another round of chemo and had gotten a room at a hotel that was closer to the water. I’d tried to convince myself that what I was doing was beyond stupid, but I’d been in the room less than an hour before I’d texted Brennan. And then I’d waited.

And waited.

There’d been no text back so I hadn’t even been sure he was coming.

Not until the knock on the door had come…the door I’d been pacing back and forth in front of like some caged animal.

Brennan’s eyes slowly opened and he stretched languidly before he sat up and began searching the room. He didn’t visibly relax till his eyes settled on me. There was enough light coming in through the curtains that he could see me and I him without any trouble.

“Morning,” he murmured as he leaned back against the headboard, his eyes roaming over me. “What time is it?”

“Almost six,” I said.

Brennan didn’t comment on the fact that he’d spent the entire night. Instead, his eyes slid down my body again and I felt like he’d actually touched me with his fingers. When his gaze reached my face, he frowned and said, “Did you sleep?”

It was a question I hadn’t been expecting. “A little,” I lied.

“You look tired,” Brennan mused and then he swung his legs over the bed. The blanket shifted precariously, but not enough to expose his lower body as he sat up so that he was facing me. I wasn’t sure if I should be happy or disappointed by that.

“Brennan-”

“Wait,” Brennan said as he lifted his hand. “Can I just do one thing before we have the talk?” he asked, using his fingers to make air quotes for the last couple of words.

I nodded, even though I really wanted to get this over with. Why the hell hadn’t I just left? Yeah, it would have made me a fucking asshole, but why pretend I was something that I wasn’t?

Brennan got up, not caring that he was naked. I expected him to go to the bathroom so he could take care of business, but instead he stopped right in front of the chair I was sitting in, giving me a perfect view of his half hard cock. I managed to lift my eyes, but I was at a loss for words and Brennan seemed to know it because he suddenly put his knee on one side of my hip, then his other knee on the other side. He lowered himself until he was sitting astride me and I automatically put my hands on his outer thighs. His fingers came up to sift through my hair and he held me in place as he leaned in to kiss me. But he bypassed my mouth and brushed his lips over the sensitive spot just beneath my ear. The gentle caress lasted mere seconds and then he was pulling back. His thumb lifted to brush over my mouth.

“Morning,” he said softly as his eyes held mine.

“Morning,” I returned dumbly. The feel of Brennan’s naked body on my fully clothed one was messing with my head.

“Can I use some of your toothpaste?” he asked as his thumb continued to tease my lower lip. “Because I really want to give you a real good morning kiss but-”

I didn’t even let him finish his statement before I reached up to snag him around the neck and yank him down to me for a bone-melting kiss. By the time I released his mouth, he was squirming against me. I let my hand trail over his ass, but forced myself not to let it linger and I carefully eased him off my lap. “Get dressed and meet me in the other room,” I said, my voice sounding thick and harsh.

Brennan nodded and went to the bathroom while I stood and tried to get control of my raging libido. I busied myself with making coffee in the kitchen that was part of the hotel suite and then searched out two mugs. By the time the coffee was ready, Brennan was coming out of the bedroom, fully dressed. He sat down in one of the armchairs to pull on his shoes and I couldn’t help but think about how utterly domestic the scene was. My plan had been to go sit on the living room couch while we talked, but I decided I needed to keep something between me and the man I couldn’t seem to keep my hands off of, so I put his coffee and the cream and sugar packets on the high counter that separated the kitchen from the living room. Brennan finished tugging his shoes on and then went to the counter and sat down on one of the bar stool style chairs while he prepared his coffee.
