“Me too, Matt. The absolute worst happened. Carl escaped from jail only a few months later. He called and threatened to take Kimmie. He told me to watch over my shoulder, because he would kill me the first chance he got. He’s been chasing me ever since.”

Matt and Sean cursed under their breaths.

“I’d like to get my hands on that motherfucker,” Sean said.

“Count me in on that mission, buddy,” Matt agreed.

They want to protect me. She’d never felt like anyone had her back, until now.

“That’s when Mom, Kimmie, and I started running. I was afraid. I know my mind wasn’t clear at the time. I should’ve gone to the police. But Carl had escaped already. I wasn’t sure they would be able to keep Kimmie and my mom safe.”

Matt stroked her hair. “You survived, honey. Most wouldn’t have.”

“As our paltry funds dwindled, I had to find a new way to get cash. That’s when I decided to become a hacker. It was so easy for me. Wrong, yes. Stupid, yes, but it quickly worked. I started finding corrupt businesses robbing their employees. I would take just enough to help the cheated workers and a little to take care of Mom and Kimmie.” She closed her eyes, feeling the guilt well up inside her.

Sean kissed her on the cheek. “Your daughter is safe. Your mom is safe. You are safe. That’s all because of how strong you are, Jena. You’re amazing.”

Matt squeezed her hands. “You did what you thought was best. Considering all you had to face, I think most would’ve done the same.”

She looked at them. These two Texans had turned her world upside down. They made her want to be a better person. “So here I am, putting your lives in jeopardy, too.”

“You’re not putting us in any more danger than we were already in.” Matt’s gaze was warm and comforting. “We’ve been hunting down criminals for a very long time. That’s just what we do.”

“Can’t you see that I’m also a criminal? I’ve just never been caught, until now.” She took a deep breath again. “I have done things I’m ashamed of.”

Sean touched her on the cheek. “You did what you had to do to protect your family. You have no idea how much that means to Matt and me. We’ll deal with your past one step at a time.”

Matt nodded. “It’s clear we have several objectives we’ve got to accomplish. First, we need to get Mitrofanov behind bars. He’s on your scent, and that’s something we’ve got to change.”

“I agree,” Sean chimed in. “Second, we will find Carl and maybe we can have Niklaus and him share a cell.”

“How?” she asked. “The jerk broke out four years ago and hasn’t been found since.”

“Honey, we weren’t the ones looking for him,” Matt said. “Sean and I have great contacts back at the Agency. Dylan has even more. The net we can spread can cover not just the United States, but also the entire planet. We’ll get that fucker.”

Knowing they would do that for her had her soaring and falling more for them.

“Third,” Sean continued. “We need to get the malicious code in TBK taken care of. I think that will point back to Mitrofanov, so maybe it is part of our first objective.”

“True.” Matt’s eyebrows shot up. “Fourth, we deal with your issues, Jena. We need specifics on what you did to survive. Every detail.” He brushed the hair out of her eyes. “Sean and I have done some things in the line of duty that would curl your hair, Jena. Your duty is to Kimmie and your mom. We have friends who will be happy to wipe the slate clean for you.”

“And we need to find your dad’s money and get that back to you and your mom,” Sean added.

“I don’t know what to say.” She kissed them both. Were they her saviors, her miracle workers? Could they do everything they promised for her? She bet they could and would. “No one has ever done anything like this for me. I swear I’ll work my ass off to get that code out of TBK’s system.”

“Don’t you dare do anything to this perfect ass,” Matt said.

Sean cupped her chin. “You can work hard, but leave this”—his hand moved between her ass and the sofa cushion—“alone. Understand?”

Their commanding tones got her all tingly and warm. Carrying a few extra pounds around was how she saw herself. By the look in both their eyes, she could tell they thought she was just the right shape. She felt beautiful, and that was because of them. “Yes. I won’t forget. Ass. Leave it alone.”

“We, on the other hand, won’t leave your ass alone,” Sean said wickedly. “Let’s strip our little hacker, buddy.”

Matt nodded and stood, towering over her. “How would you like a little play, Jena?”

Play? “What do you mean? Role play?” That was something she’d never done, but with them she was willing to try just about anything.

“Yes, but specifically I’m thinking Dominance and submission.”
