“Don’t leave them all hanging, young lady,” Gretchen said. “Spill it.”
Megan winked. “This is something special, Gretchen. Let me do this my way.”
The woman smiled. “The floor is yours, my dear.”
“You are my closest and dearest friends in Destiny,” Megan told them.
Jena was shocked and thrilled that Megan had included her. She felt the same way for Megan and was beginning to feel that way for all the ladies.
“I wanted you to be the first to know,” Megan continued. Her eyes welled up. “I wanted to show you my newest outfit.”
Jena smiled. The woman’s love of fashion had to be more than any other on the entire planet. Who threw a party for a new dress? God, I love these people, but they are a little crazy.
Megan reached into a box and pulled out a maternity dress. “I’m going to be needing more of these.”
Everyone gasped. Then Jena’s heart soared for her new friend as everyone applauded and the combined chatter began.
“Oh my God.”
“What wonderful news.”
“Congratulations.”
“Do you know if it’s a boy or girl?”
“What did your men say?”
Gretchen quieted the excited group. “Get your glasses, ladies. Here’s the champagne. Megan, I brought you some apple cider. So good for the baby.”
When everyone’s glass was filled, Ethel stood to give a toast to the new mother-to-be. “Megan, you have made all of us feel so very special in your life today by sharing this wonderful news. I am sure I speak for all of us when I say that we love you, Eric, and Scott so very much. You supported our community by giving of yourself. And now you are blessing us with a new little baby that I know you will allow us to spoil. I can see all of us fighting over the little one now.”
“I’ll win that fight, Ethel,” Gretchen said, wiping her eyes.
“We all will,” Ethel said sweetly. “The important thing is, we are all here for you, Megan. And when you are tired, overwhelmed, and need any of us, we will come running. But always know that anything you go through is worth it all. Take it from a judge—you will be a wonderful mother. We love you.”
Everyone applauded and drank their champagne through the happy tears.

Sean restated his question to Scott and Eric. “What is going on upstairs, guys? You do know.”
“You’re damn right we do,” Scott said.
Eric nodded. “Megan is going to have a baby. We’re going to be dads.”
They all stood up with their cans of soda and made a toast to the two lucky men. Sean imagined a day when he and Matt would be announcing Jena’s pregnancy. The truth was, when they brought Kimmie back to Destiny, he would be a new dad. He could already feel it in his heart. He couldn’t wait to have Jena, her mom, and little Kimmie living in his and Matt’s house. They would make it a home.
“You lucky dog.” Sean slapped Eric on the back. “Megan said we would get Jena back by two, but now that I know what the party is really about I’m sure we won’t see her until five.”
“You’re right about that,” the father-to-be answered.
The intercom buzzed.
Scott clicked the button. “Yes?”
“Mr. Knight. This is Terrence at the front desk. I have Sheriff Wolfe’s brothers here saying they need to see him with an urgent matter.”
“Send them up,” Scott said.
