Sweet Dandelion

His eyes deepen in color as he tips his chin down. “Yes, you are.”

“Music?”

He points to a speaker in his kitchen I didn’t notice earlier and passes me his unlocked phone so I can use his music app. It doesn’t take me long to find what I want and soon a slowed down remix of Unsteady by the X Ambassadors is playing.

Lachlan’s lips quirk and he holds out his hands, fitting one into mine and placing the other on my waist.

I step up and squeak when he pulls me in even closer. Lowering his head to my ear he whispers gruffly, “If we’re going to dance, Dandelion, we’re going to do it right.”

His words send a shiver down my spine.

I’ve never liked being called my full name, except by my mom, but hearing it on Lachlan’s tongue gives me a new appreciation for it.

We sway back and forth in the middle of his apartment, my feet cushioned by the fluffy rug beneath my toes. Zeppelin watches us with an amused look, for a dog anyway. I know it’s not as if we’re dancing like professionals, but this still feels like everything.

“Why’d you want to dance?” he murmurs gently, our bodies so close I feel the vibration of his vocal cords through my whole body.

“Because I can,” I whisper. “I might not be able to run, but I can still do this. I’m taking your advice, and focusing on what I can do.” A look crosses his face. “What? Tell me.”

He shakes his head, his lips quirking the tiniest bit. “You have no idea how incredible you are.”

“I’m average. Boring. Definitely not incredible.”

His lips find the shell of my ear again. “That’s what the most brilliant and remarkable people always say. Trust me, Dani, you’re incredible.”

His words fill my body with heat, emboldening me to take what I want.

While we sway, my fingers find the back of his neck, sliding into his hair. His eyes close for a second, but it’s all I need.

On my tiptoes now, I kiss him. It feels like it’s been forever since I have, but I know that isn’t true. It doesn’t matter though, because my body still reacts like it’s the first time. Bubbles jump and burst in my stomach, my heart fluttering like a butterfly desperate to break free. I expect him to push me away, but he doesn’t. He tugs me closer, his hand sliding lower over my hip until his fingers basically splay over my entire ass.

His embrace is tight, like he’s holding onto what’s his.

I want to be his more than anything.

I’ll let him have me, all of me, every sad and happy thought, every emotion, my body, my heart. It’s his for the taking.

His hands cup my face, nearly swallow it in his grasp, deepening the kiss. He claims me, his tongue and mine twisting together.

“Why does it have to be you?” he whispers gruffly, moving his lips over my face.

“Kiss me,” I beg, not even caring if I sound wanton.

He does, our dance long forgotten but a whole new one beginning to play out.

His hands move down my body, creating a trail that sends fire spreading through my body. “Touch me,” I beg. “Please.” My voice is achy with need.

“Dani—”

“Please.”

His uttered, “Fuck,” is a deep rumble.

One of his hands moves from my side, up, up, up, until it rests under the curve of my small breast.

“Lachlan,” I beg between kisses. “More.”

His thumb rubs against the sensitive nub hidden beneath my bra. His other hand goes to my back, fisting the fabric between his big fingers. It might be permanently wrinkled after his touch, but I don’t care. He can ruin my shirt, he can ruin me.
