To Capture a Thorn (The Society 2)

When I got home, I had no choice but to tell my men what I’d done. In all the years I’d been with The Society, I had never told anyone of the missions they asked me to do. What was the point? None of them could be stopped.

We were bound by our loyalty to them as we were to each other. Then they all told me the truth of what they’d done for The Society. At some point, they had taken a life too. After the revelation, I had no choice but to get over it. To live my life with my two girls.

What did surprise me was a month after I did what I did, the boy appeared at my house.

The Society had taken care of everything and now, I was adopting the boy. He was six years old, and his medical history showed years of physical abuse.

We took him in, and we showed him more love than anyone else ever could. He was one of us.

“Mommy, look.” Dolly pulled on my jacket, and I turned to see a woman coming out of an alley.

“Money, please,” the woman said. She was a street woman. “Such a pretty girl.”

I held Dolly close to me just as Dante arrived, pulling up to the curb. I helped Dolly inside, and she helped me with Brianna. I closed the car door and rounded to the passenger side, to come to a stop as I looked at the street woman.

There was no mistaking who this was.

The scarred face, the eyes, the hair, and I just knew I was staring at Chloe, the girl who had helped to kill Heather. She was on the streets. A shiver ran down my spine.

The Society took care of traitors.

Once the queen of All Saints, she was now scarred up, on the streets and begging. I felt my stomach revolt.

The Society was good and bad. Now I could add evil to the mix as well. Part of me wanted to go and give her money, but I knew to do that would have consequences.

I climbed into the car.

They were the ones who made the orders, and we followed them.

Turning toward my girls, I gave them a big smile. I would never do anything to hurt or jeopardize their future. What Chloe did was on her, and there was nothing I could do about that.

“Are you okay?” Dante asked.

“Never better.” What I could do was love my life, take care of my girls, and protect my men. It was what I’d been doing for fifteen years, and I wasn’t going to give up now.
