Danny sinks down in his large leather chair and I take the seat across from his desk.

“Don’t ever disrespect me in front of my men like that again, Sara. You can run your mouth all you want at home, but never here. It makes me look weak. If it appears I can’t control my bitch, then they won’t think I am fit to run this club.” He uses the corner of his desk to pop the bottlecap off his beer and chugs.

“I’m sorry, Danny. But. You. Lied. To. Me.”

He lets out a belch then sighs. “I didn’t lie, Sara. I just didn’t tell you. There is a difference.”

“No, an omission of truth is the same as lie. I point blank asked you if there was something wrong or if I should be worried. You said nothing was wrong.”

“And I told you no. The only things you need to worry about is being a mom to CT and sucking my dick.”

His harsh words are like a slap to my face. I don’t like this side of Danny. Though I guess right now I’m not dealing with my husband. I am talking to Hades.

“By the looks of those girls out there I have plenty to be worried about, Hades.” I throw his club name at him like an insult. “What did you do? Did you set that fire?”

“This is club business and doesn’t concern you.”

“Everything you do concerns me, Danny. Every-fuckin-thing. You’re my husband.”

“That’s right, Sara, your husband. I don’t answer to you. You see this tattoo on your chest.” He gets up and stalks toward me and grabs the collar of my shirt and rips it down the front. “What’s it say, huh? What does it fucking say?” He pokes his finger into my skin hard enough to leave a bruise. “Hades’ Flame!” He roars in my face like he is possessed. “You answer to me not the other way around. If you don’t like it, then you can catch your ass a ride back to Drag Creek tomorrow with your brother.”

Chapter 20

Danny

I regret the words the moment they leave my mouth, but I can’t take them back. Sara needs to know her place. Being my wife doesn’t entitle her to know why I do the things I do where the club is concerned. I need her to be strong enough to trust in me even when she doesn’t agree with me.

Everything I do is with her in mind. I don’t know how to make her grasp that.

“Do you mean that, Danny?”

Her whiskey fire eyes are staring up at me with so much hurt. She has the one look in her eyes that I never wanted to see again.

Despair.

It makes chest ache. My heart squeezes so hard I’m afraid it will crack right in two. Without Sara I wouldn’t have anything worth fighting for.

Tiny was wrong. A man with nothing to lose may have nothing to fear, but a man with a woman like Sara is dangerous. A man who has everything to live for. Everything to fight back harder for. I won’t lose her. Not to him. Not to any-damn-body.

Swallowing hard, I don’t know what to say, so I grab her face between my hands and kiss her, trying to express what words won’t convey.

She tries like hell to fight me and pull away. Going as far as smacking me as hard as she can, but I don’t relent.

I can’t.

I won’t.

Sara is my world.

Every good part of me.

We break apart to catch our breaths.

Tears streak down her face. “Let me go, Danny,” she whispers the words out in a broken sob.

“Never,” I vow and claim her lips once more.

Her hands are balled into fists and pressing against my chest, but I don’t let up. When I push my tongue through the part of her lips, she bites me. My baby has fire, but her bite isn’t hard enough to hurt.
