“Indeed they are like dragons. Magnificently built, but very deadly. They did not die when Danu was destroyed, as did all other life forms.” He shook his head. “We tried to destroy them when there were but two left, a male and a female. Queen Bridget did not wish to make them extinct. At the time the Dark King and Queen Bridget were already having problems with each other. The Dark King used his skills born of the Dark Magic he prized to aid her in the capture of the beasts. She allowed him to help her rid us of the Gorka but kept them alive. Probably her first mistake was letting the blackguard help. The Dark King used his black magic and managed somehow to capture the two remaining Gorka and transport them to another realm. He failed in as much as only the male survived. Even so, after that he thought too much of himself and what his position in our kingdom should be.”

“What did the Gorka look like?” Frankie asked curiously.

“Their eyes were red and dripped tears of poison. Their scales were spiked and also dripped the same poison. Other than the Death Sword, that poison is the only other thing that can kill Fae. We have since found an antidote for it. The Gorka breathe fire, and their fire burns but cannot kill us. The burn is painful and takes a rather long time to heal. Their wing span was wider than ours, for they are enormous.” He paused and sighed again. “They considered Fae a food delicacy. You see, they weren’t just dumb animals. They had a thought pattern that we were able to detect and to some extent, understand. I believe they went after the Sluagh because we could fly. I always felt such rage emanating from them every time I encountered one.”

He grew silent and Frankie squeezed his hand. “Never mind, da. They are gone forever.”

“Yes, they are in fact extinct, but for one. The Dark King somehow used too much power and the female died during transport. Only the male survives.” He shook his head of white gold hair and Frankie was awestruck by how beautiful he was.

“Come, let us go to dinner. I have your favorite foods waiting for us.”

“Da?” she said surprised. “How do ye know what m’favorite foods are?”

“Now I can’t tell you all my secrets, can I?” He was pleased beyond his wildest expectations when she fiercely hugged him. He patted her back and felt a flutter of concern. He had never cared for anyone more than himself, until now. He discovered that Frankie now would always come first.

“Da, what if it escaped? It would be angry that its mate was killed. Would it come for us?”

“It won’t escape and it doesn’t have the power to shift. One more thing it doesn’t have, are the unusual abilities we share.”

“Like what, da?”

“One ability we have is the one I will be using tomorrow when I do a fly by at Queen Morrigu’s Castle is the power of invisibility!”

“But other Fae can see through it. Nuad taught me how to do it. He said it is called the Féth Fiada.”

p; “Yes, but we Sluagh can use the Féth Fiada against the Dark Fae. They can see through it when other Fae enact it, but not when a Sluagh uses it.” He smiled proudly, “I will teach it to you. In time, you will learn everything you need to know as my daughter.”

“But Da, I overheard something that Trevor said. He said that one of our problems is that the Dark Princes have Seelie blood in them.”

Her father laughed, “Not enough to see through my invisibility. You see even a full blooded Seelie Fae must concentrate to see me when I enact it.”

Frankie smiled at him, but a certain fear gripped her young heart.

Chapter Fourteen

“JAZMINE DECKER.” Trevor said her name with such a caress that Jazz melted against him. His accent in her ear was low and hungry. His words in ancient Danu came softly and with a strength of feeling that made her tremble. “Dh’fhaodadh tu, iona airc.” Her Fae blood translated the words instantly to, ”I want—need you”.

She murmured his name, surprised at the husky wantonness of her voice. She heard him groan with desire and a flood of hot blood flowed through her veins. What she felt was so intense that all she could do was cling to him.

His voice at her earlobe, thick with his accent whispered, “I have wanted you in my arms all day, sweet love. All through the battle, all I kept thinking was this will be over and then I’ll have my Jazmine Decker. Have to finish this and get to my love. I thought of you and wanted to take you away and love you. I hate that you are out there risking your immortal life to fight abominations. It makes it hard to think when I can’t see you and know if you are safe.” Trevor’s hands roamed her body as his husky voice covered her with his emotion.

She felt steam engulf them. Their heat had affected the atmosphere and she felt like she was in a sauna. A fire lit up inside her and somehow, all else was forgotten but the fact that they were together, touching, needing.

He blinked off their clothing and took a moment to stare at her provocative body. “You are exquisite, my love,” he murmured sweetly.

She looked at his throbbing member and stroked it. “Not so bad yourself.” Her eyes looked deep into his and suddenly she said passionately, “Trevor, never let me go…ever. I couldn’t bear an immortal life without you”. She wanted to forget the horrors of the day. She wanted to forget that somehow she had become a warrior. She wanted to forget that she was a killing machine.

When she first realized what she was actually doing, she was distressed. She never wanted to kill anything. She was all about studying life and although her specialty was sea-life, she revered all life. That couldn’t prevent her from Slamming, and thrusting her sword into grotesque creatures who did not have a choice to be anything but what they were.

She told herself she was helping to save the human race and she watched her comrades kill those she had Slammed. She had rooted for them. The Fae had somehow become her family.

The choice was clear; they had to destroy the Dark King’s mistakes. They were a collection of horror, unable to empathize even with one another. Killing now was a necessity.

Every single Unseelie that had crossed over to the Human Realm had to be eliminated. Even knowing this, a wave of pity swept through her and she couldn’t help but wish it wasn’t so.

For now, all those thoughts had been shoved to another compartment in her brain. She had to put that behind because for now, she wanted to cling to Trevor. To touch him and be touched. She wanted his kisses, and the kisses she returned were desperate in response to his.
