“I knew you’d be a doll.” And that’s all she really called for. I wish she’d straighten up and want more out of life than mooching off the next person she meets.

“Bye.”

I end the call and see Lena looking at me in shock.

“An ex-wife?” She’s grabbing her clothes off the floor.

I close the distance and toss the clothes on the bed. Ignoring the indignation on her face, I correct her before she overreacts. “No, don’t get jealous. You’ve got nothing and no one to be jealous of. That was my train wreck of a mother, and I never touched a woman until last night.”

“Wait…are you saying? No, you can’t be saying that.”

“What, that I’m a twenty-four-year-old virgin? Yes. That’s what I was saying. A woman who left me on my grandparents’ doorstep while she went from one man to the next gave me a healthy distrust of most women, and her conniving, money-hungry ways kept my dick out of them. I can’t say it was easy at all. From the time I hit twelve I knew about sex, but I kept myself busy. I was kind of a super nerd who went to college early so I didn’t have time to screw women, and being a minor kept a lot of women away from me. Once I was old enough, I didn’t want to ruin my life with an accidental pregnancy.”

“Oh, shit. That’s insanely incredible.” A gasp escapes her lips and she freezes, staring up at me. “We didn’t. I’m not…”

She stumbles on her words, but I have a feeling where she’s going with this. I egg her on. “Not what?”

“I’m not on anything and we…we didn’t use anything.” She’s biting her lip, but she doesn’t have a single thing to worry about.

“Good. I want you to have my babies.”

“I thought. I don’t know what I was thinking last night. Well, this morning.” She continues to stumble on her words.

“You were thinking that I was saying that I wanted my baby in you in the heat of the moment. Not a chance. I meant every word. In fact, maybe we should try again to make sure you get pregnant quick.”

“You’re nuts.” She swats my chest.

“About you.” I bend down and kiss her soft lips. Fuck, I want this to last forever, but I know reality is going to set in and my obligations are going to get in the way.

I step away and look for some clean clothes. I’m glad this house has some of my things. That way I don’t have to live out of a suitcase when I visit. “I’ll be out in ten, and then it’s all yours.”

“So you’re going home today? Where is home?”

“No. We’re not going anywhere unless it’s out to dinner or something. I hope you don’t have any more classes for the week or I’m going to have you skip them.”

“But you told her…” I press my finger to her lips.

“That’s because I don’t want her ass in my home. I sure as fuck don’t want her to interrupt our time alone either.” In all honesty, I don’t want her to meet Lena because she’s only going to find a way to try and separate us. My mother loves to do things to upset others, and I sure as hell won’t let anyone come between us.

“How is this going to work out? I go to school in Chicago.”

“That’s perfect, actually, because our other home is there too. I have the penthouse suite in my office building downtown. So enough of that separating nonsense. How can I get you to skip school tomorrow?”

“You could always lock me up.”

“Sounds very interesting. Come sit on my lap and tell me more.” She does just that, straddling me. “How does this plan work?”

“I don’t know. Maybe you could trap me with your big strong body.” With a growl, I flip her onto the bed and cage her in.

“Like this?”

“It’s a start.”

“We have the afternoon.”

Chapter Ten

Lena

Everett left me on the bed to sleep after another slow round of lovemaking. I need to shower, then find something to eat. I’m starving. I jump in the shower and wash up, wrapping myself in one of his big fluffy towels. These are amazing. I wish I had these. I step out of the bathroom and look for something to wear. All I have is my dirty clothes from yesterday. My bag is somewhere in this house. Shit. I see the dress shirt he wore last night and slip my arms through it, buttoning all but the top three. It hangs over me, longer than the dress I wore yesterday. I breathe it in and love that it smells like him.

My rumbling stomach reminds me that I’m freaking hungry, so I rush out of the room and down the main staircase. Now I’m going to have to go on the hunt for the kitchen. Everett’s around here somewhere, but he’s also not the only one here. I run into an older woman, and I wonder if she’s the mother that he didn’t want around.
