Taking the Mafia Princess
And that was where I was at. On my way home to call her lover, an Italian mobster who played a part in her kidnapping. I made the call, but he wasn’t home, so I had to wait for the bastard to call me back. I had a farm to run, not get in the middle of a mob war. If it wasn’t for Regan, I would let that shite play out and mind my own business.
“Declan, what’s going on?” my da asks as I hit the next log with my axe, splitting it in two for firewood. Summers were short and nights could get brutal. I’d prepare my guns for a fight before bed just in case shite went down sooner.
“Da, I can’t say much more than Regan’s troubles came with her.” I didn’t want to involve him, but I had a feeling that it was too late.
“Son, what do ye mean? Out with it, boy,” he demanded, leaning on his cane. He was in an accident that left him with a damaged leg. I’d get him a chair, but that would enrage him.
“I need to contact her kidnapper for help,” I confessed.
“What the hell?”
My phone rang, stopping all conversation. I pulled out my phone from my pocket in such a hurry that I answered before the second ring. “Hello,” I answer wondering if this is the thug or her uncle, the other thug.
“I received a message to call you,” Franchetti snarled on the other end. I rolled my eyes then looked around to see if the manky fuck was creeping nearby.
I didn’t see the knobrot, so I replied, “Mr. Franchetti, Regan asked me to give ye a message. She said she’s scared, and one of her uncle’s men is staying with the family.”
“She’s scared of me? She should be after lying to the police swearing I raped her,” he roared.
“She didn’t talk to the police at all,” I whispered, realizing we were still outside where echoes carried. I went inside to mud room with my da following me.
“What?” he said in disbelief.
“Yes. She was sedated, and they rushed us out of the hospital before it was even safe for her to travel,” I told him. Someone was playing loose with the facts.
“What do you mean she was sedated? The document was written and signed the same day she was admitted.”
“She wasn’t awake until the next morning. I know that because I was there as ye’ remember. So what the fuck are ye gonna to do about it?” I asked the bloody wanker.
“Look, I don’t fucking like you, and trust me that’s not a good thing, so watch your fucking mouth. Second, I’m on my way there. Make sure that fuck stays away from her or it will be your ass. And one more motherfucking thing. Don’t kiss her again, or I’ll kill you, and I’m a man of my word,” he growled like a fucking beast. “Wait, Sullivan. How am I to know it’s not a setup?”
“Hey, ye arse, I don’t like ye either. I may not have loved her as anything more than a friend, but she was still my girl, and ye stole her from me. She asked me to contact ye. Only for her would I even think of speaking to someone like ye. I have to hurry and finish my work before I can see her. Come soon.” I end the call.
“Now to prepare my guns,” I mumbled to myself, washing my hands in the sink.
“I’m going with ye,” my da told me. From the determined expression on his face, it looked like I didn’t have a choice.
Chapter 2
Declan
The next day I checked in at the house, and everything ran smoothly. I did catch that fuck say something like I can’t wait for Franchetti to make a move. It sounded like he thought Franchetti would attack. Why he felt that way was the part that bothered me. Only two reasons made sense. One, Franchetti wanted to hurt Regan, and the prick would be there to protect her. Or two, he wanted Franchetti to kill her and her family for them.
“I’ll stop by later,” I said as I walked out of the house. The second I stepped onto my ranch I got a call from Franchetti. “Well, well. Have ye finally gotten yer balls?”
“You’ve got a lot of nerve farm boy,” he bites out, but I’ll fuck up his whole world if he doesn’t do the right thing by her.
“What do ye want?” I return the attitude with a tad bit of my own. I’d give him a harder time, but we needed to work together for Regan’s sake.
“I’m going to be there in a few hours. Get ready to pick us up at the airport.” He continued with his plan once they arrived. Apparently, he was bringing a damn army of assholes with him. I went along with it but informed him that we had to move quickly. I promised that I would visit tonight.
