“Booker. Cade Booker. I know you don’t want to tell me anything more about how you know him, but I’m going to ask you to do it anyway. You both went to the same underground leather club.”

He nodded.

“I need more information if I’m going to help you figure this out. What else can you tell me about him?”

“Nothing.” Joe was adamant.

“Please.” I quickly filled him in on our discussion with Dominic last night. “His own brother says he’s a psycho.”

“Hell, I agree. Who else but a psycho is armed with three guns and has his office rigged with pepper spray?”

“Not a psycho, maybe. Someone who’s very afraid of something. Someone who is overly cautious. That’s why I’m asking. What else do you know about this guy?”

“Just because he’s into—”

“Damn it, Joe, you know that’s not what I mean. What you do in the bedroom is your own thing, and whether you like to do it at some club doesn’t bother me one bit. But Booker’s the issue

here, and you’ve seen him in a way others haven’t.”

“What he likes doesn’t matter.”

“Maybe it doesn’t. But maybe it does.”

“I can’t, Bryce. It’s a gentleman’s code.”

“The man attacked us. I think the code is broken.”

“What if he makes it public that I used to go there?”

“You ashamed of it?”

“Hell, no. But it’s not something I want my mother and sister to know, for God’s sake.”

“Your mother is out of it. She won’t have a clue. As for your sister—”

“Don’t even. I don’t want to hear about any of my sister’s kinks.”

I chuckled. “I wasn’t going to give you anything like that. Trust me.”

“God. You mean there are kinks?”

I shook my head. “Let’s not get into Marj’s kinks or yours, okay? I’m only interested in Booker’s, and certainly not from a sexual standpoint. Just from the standpoint of learning more about him.”

Joe stayed quiet for a minute.

He’d tell me, though. I needed to know, so I could help him. He knew that.

“He’s a switch,” Joe finally said.

“Say what?”

“A top-bottom switch. Sometimes he likes to dominate, other times he likes to submit.”

“O…kay.”

“You don’t know the jargon,” Joe said. “I get it. But here’s the thing. Most men are Dominants, and most women are submissives, at least at this club. We had a few female Dommes and a few male subs, but it’s usually the other way around at a place like this. Switches, though, are even less common than male subs and female Dommes.”

“So he’s got an uncommon kink.”
