Chapter Four

Four days later...

Teagan

I sit anxiously waiting for my father to show up at Kian’s house. Well, our house now. It still feels strange to say that, but even though the gas leak was fixed at my apartment, Kian insisted that I move in with him, and there was no way I was going to turn down an offer like that. I traded living alone in a crappy apartment to living with the love of my life in his beautiful house in a matter of days.

But the thing is, we haven’t told my Dad yet. He has no idea of the relationship Kian and I have built while he’s been away in Vegas. But he’s coming home today and he thinks he’s picking me up to take me back to my apartment. Little does he know there’s nothing there now, not even my stuff. I handed in the keys two days ago and took everything I own with me.

“It’s going to be okay,” Kian whispers in my ear, but I’m not so sure. Anyone looking at our situation from the outside would think we’re rushing into this whole relationship. I know that’s not the case, but only because I’m in it, so deeply in love with Kian that I know we’re going to last forever together. But I really don’t think my father is going to see it that way.

“What if he refuses to accept it?” I ask Kian anxiously, chewing my lip. “I love my Dad and I don’t want to disappoint him, but you’re my life.”

“He’ll understand. We’ll make him understand,” Kian growls. I nod, bowing my head. I touch my stomach and smile ever so slightly. After several rounds of making love I know that in there, mine and Kian’s baby is growing. It’s early times but I just know it. I think it’s romantic, but again, I don’t think my father will feel the same way. What if he rejects me and his grandchild? What if he feels so betrayed that he walks out of my life forever?

“It’s going to be okay, I swear,” Kian growls, reading my mind as usual. We don’t need to talk to understand one another entirely. I can see that he’s confident about this, so I decide that I should trust him. I lean in to kiss him and he strokes my cheek tenderly. This is the reason I fell for him. All my troubles seem to melt away when our lips touch. He makes me happier than anything ever has before. My Dad might never understand this, but the thing is, he never knew love like this. He and my mother didn’t have a good marriage, and after she passed away, he’s dated a lot of different women. I could never do that. I knew three years ago that Kian was the only man for me and ever since that’s been it. I waited for him and now that I have him, I’m not letting him go...even if my father doesn’t approve.

I hear his car pulling up in the driveway and his footsteps on the driveway. I clutch Kian’s hand.

“Are you ready for this?” he asks. I nod, even though I’m not. He walks toward the door, pulling me with him, his shoulders back and his chest puffed out. He’s not going to go down without a fight.

As he flings the door open, I’m shocked to see that my father isn’t alone. His latest girlfriend, Sherry, is standing with him. They’re both wearing wide grins on their faces.

“Hey, Kian! Good to see you!” my Dad says. “Can we come in? We’ve got some exciting news for you.”

“Oh...okay…”

Kian glances at me in surprise as my Dad leads Sherry into the house. I shrug. I’m as lost as he is. Whatever’s going on, it must be important to my Dad, because he hasn’t even noticed that Kian and I are holding hands.

“Pop open some champagne, Kian!” my Dad cries as he pulls Sherry close to him. “Because we’re celebrating!”

“Celebrating what?” I ask doubtfully. Sherry shows me her hand with a gleeful grin. On it is a big diamond ring.

“What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas,” my father grins. “We got married!”

Kian

For a moment I’m too shocked to speak. This isn’t what I was expecting when I invited David to the house. For starters, I had no idea he’d be bringing company. Secondly, I had no idea that it would be his new wife.

“Con...congratulations!” Teagan stammers, smiling at her father. “I’m so happy for you…”

“We just knew it was the right time,” Sherry gushes. “You just know when something just feels so right. We both have wanted this for longer than we’d like to admit and it’s made us so happy. Though we’re sorry you weren’t there for the wedding.”

“We’ll have a big party to celebrate,” David insists with a smile. He looks at me with a slight frown. “Are you going to say anything, Kian?”
