Bought For Love

My eyes filled with tears that quickly spilled over, and Miles wiped them away with his thumbs. But they were happy ones. How could they be anything else after his speech? “I kinda already noticed you were rich,” I laughed.

“Not me, Emma. We,” he corrected. “And we aren’t just rich. We’re fucking loaded. Filthy rich. Almost as filthy as I’d like to get with you to celebrate you being pregnant.”

If it was possible for a woman to cry, laugh, and spontaneously combust from lust all at the same time, that’s what I would have done right then and there in the back of the car. I’d only just discovered I was pregnant, but I would have sworn my hormones were already all over the place. “We,” I agreed, although thinking of myself as wealthy was going to take some getting used to.

“Was college the only thing bothering you?”

“No,” I sighed. “I know you’re going to tell me to not worry about what other people think of me, but I can’t help but be a little bit concerned about the gossip my pregnancy is going to cause in your circle of friends. I already felt like they all wondered what the heck you were doing with me. I’m sure the news of the baby will fill in that gap for them, and they’ll think I trapped you into marriage.”

“Anyone who’d think you had to resort to trapping me is too dumb to be a real friend of mine. The people who’re important to me—to us—only have to observe me when I’m around you to know that the opposite is true. If either of us did any trapping around here, it was me doing my damnedest to knock you up so you’d be tied to me forever.”

“You’re insane,” I laughed. He was drop-dead gorgeous and rich. The last thing he needed to do was trap a woman into being with him.

“Only when it comes to you,” he agreed, tugging me closer.

Those hormones of mine went haywire again at how easily he said stuff like that to me. The least I could do was open up more with him about the one thing he really wanted me to talk about—family.

“I’m also wondering how to tell my parents about the baby. My relationship with them is…strained. I finally just told them we got married when my mom called me the other day to ask if I was ready to move back home yet.”

He squeezed me tight. “They weren’t happy about you moving to New York?”

“Nope. They wanted me to stay in the same small town where I grew up, helping them and getting a job that wouldn’t take me anywhere until I found a guy they approved of and moved out of their home on my wedding day.”

“Wanna fly out to tell them about the baby and rub their faces in the fact that moving to New York against their wishes netted you a billionaire husband who could buy and sell their little town ten times over?”

I lifted my head to search his blue eyes for any sign that he was kidding. I didn’t find it. His face held a hint of ruthlessness that I hadn’t seen in him before, but it didn’t surprise me because he wouldn’t have found the success he had without it. “You’re so sexy when you go all cutthroat on my behalf, even when it isn’t needed. My parents love me in their own way, and the situation with them will work itself out one way or another. I don’t think they’ll ever understand or approve of the life choices I’ve made, but it’s okay because they live more than half a country away from us so we won’t have to deal with them on a day-to-day basis.”

“I didn’t hear anything past ‘you’re so sexy,’” he murmured softly. Then he leaned forward and instructed the driver to head to our townhouse instead. We were only a block away from the bookstore, which was only minutes from home, and we kissed the rest of the ride there. As soon as the car pulled up to the curb, Miles hustled me out, practically dragging me through our door and up the stairs to our bedroom. He stripped me out of my clothes, pausing to drop a kiss on my belly before he tore his shirt and pants off his body and tossed them onto the floor.

He gently backed me onto the mattress and proceeded to drive me into a frenzy of need with his hands and mouth. When my thighs began to tremble and I had his red hair clenched in my fists, he rose over my body and entered me in one powerful thrust.

“A perfect fit,” he purred. “From the very beginning.”

“Except for the painful part of you taking my virginity,” I reminded him on a pant as he pulled out and slid back inside.
