My Secret Valentine Baby
“You’d rather do a big Internet reveal? I think I saw one with fighter planes, which seems excessive, but we do live in Vegas. Let me schedule it.” I pretend to pick up my phone.
“No! Stop!” She jumps to her feet. “I’ll get you a list. Just give me a week.”
“A day.”
“Five days.”
“Two.”
“Fine.” She lets out a huff and flops into her chair. The typing from her corner of the room is excessively loud. I hide my smile behind my computer screen. Marriage to Mila will be fun, that's for damned sure.
CHAPTER 4
MILA
The way Archer stares at me for hours on end, you’d think I was a beautiful piece of art. Or one of those exotic dancers that hypnotize men with their beauty and seduction. They are all over Vegas, and I know I don’t look anything like them. Especially with my growing baby bump. Even when I was in my bridesmaid’s dress, I wasn't anywhere near that level of beauty. I’m not saying that to knock myself. I’m just being honest.
I actually saw a couple of those breathtakingly gorgeous cocktail waitresses that could be those kinds of dancers in this very hotel. They were in the lobby area of the casino staring at Archer and me when he mauled me for all to see. They watched him the same way he’s watching me, but he hadn’t even glanced their way. I don’t understand this man.
Then again, maybe he already slept his way through all of them. I mean, it wouldn’t surprise me, considering how he picked me up in one of the many bars here. I hate the jealousy that sparks to life inside of me. I’m going to blame it on the pregnancy hormones. Ones that tend to be going extra crazy these days with Archer always hovering near me.
“HR says you’ll need to sign this. It won’t matter once we’re married, but Julie keeps asking me for it.” He waves around a piece of paper.
“What is it?” I take the paper from his hand. The top is in bold letters that read Relationship Disclosure Form. “I don’t need to sign this.” I push the paper back over toward him. “I’m not in a relationship with anyone.” That settles that. I glare up at him.
“Okay.” He drops them into the trash can next to my desk before going back over to his side of the office. It doesn’t take him long to get there since my desk is practically on top of his. “Are you hungry?”
“That’s it?” I peek down at the papers. I was sure that was going to be a fight. I know I've only worked for the man for hours at this point, but I’m quickly learning his personality. I’m actually having a bit of fun with our little back and forths. I find I like ruffling his feathers a bit.
“I don’t give a shit if you sign them.” He shrugs. My stomach drops. I should be happy that he’s letting it go. No more pushing that we’re a thing and getting married. “We’re still getting married. What are you going to do? Sue me? Place is half yours at that point. Kind of pointless.”
“We’re not getting married,” I growl. Maybe Archer Valentine is nuts. Not only is he saying we’re getting married, but with how he’s speaking, there isn’t going to be a prenup either.
“If you say so, dear.” He winks at me.
“What is wrong with you? What, you sleep with so many employees that they keep these agreements locked and loaded?” I reach down and pull them back out of the trash can. Why? I have no clue, but I do.
“I’ve never slept with an employee. It’s unprofessional.”
I gape at him. “Seriously?”
“I have no reason to lie.”
“You just said you were going to sleep with me!” I remind him.
“Yet. I haven’t slept with an employee yet.”
“Really?” I scrunch my nose. I’m starting to think he enjoys these little spats between us too.
“Never. Is that your issue? You think I sleep with my employees?”
“I—” I trail off, thinking what all my issues are. “So you sleep with customers.”
“Haven't done that either.” He smiles triumphantly.
“Okay, now I know you’re lying.”
“All you had was water that night, love.” I suppose he’s right again.
“Whatever.” I mumble, dropping the papers back into the trash can so I can get back to work. Or appear to be working. What I really do is google search my new boss. The father of my child. He’s been so calm about the baby thing.
When I entered his office this morning, I was sure his reaction was anger over me being pregnant. Now I’m starting to see that the only thing he’s mad about is me sneaking out of that hotel room after the night we had together.
Even when I poke him about the baby maybe not being his, he brushes it off not hearing it. It’s a stupid thing to say, but I’ve been so thrown off by everything, and him flat-out saying we’re getting married had my anger getting the best of me.
