Nothing Special V (Nothing Special 5)
“Fine.” Steele sat at his desk and turned on his computer.
“Okay, it’s in your email.” Tech looked over his shoulder. “And cover up the map. No cheating.”
“I don’t need to cheat. I got this.”
“It’s not easy. This isn’t a ninth grade geography quiz.”
“I’ve been staring at this map for two-and-a-half months. Bring it.”
“No one says bring it anymore.” Tech chuckled, shooting a hot, pointed look at him.
“I do, and you like it. You like whatever I say.” Steele swiveled around, staring back.
“Okay, it’s up. It’s timed, too. Did I forget to mention that?” Tech smiled – that wicked one that made Steele’s balls throb.
“Bring it,” Steele whispered. “You wanna place a bet that I won’t miss a single question?”
“Hmm,” Tech all but purred. “What d’ya have in mind?”
“If I lose, I’ll give you a good, hard—”
“Shut up and just take the goddamn quiz!” God yelled, cutting off their sexy banter.
“I was only going to say massage.” Steele and Tech burst with laughter, having been in their own little teasing world, forgetting they weren’t alone. Steele turned around, loaded up the quiz and began knocking out the questions. He wondered how long it took Tech to create; it was like something out of the SAT test. Tech had included everything from rivers and lakes to highways and major landmarks, not forgetting every government office, hospital, and emergency department. He held in his groan when he saw he was on number ten out of one hundred and two. Damn, Atlanta ain’t even that big. He looked up briefly when Ruxs and Green came in making a shit load of noise about Tech’s skills on the streets lately.
Steele kept his focus on his test clock while also keeping one ear peeled as Tech spoke on how he felt about chasing down those shooters a few weeks ago. It was still the hottest topic in the office. Tech was proud of himself and Steele loved that. Although he’d made mistakes, he still got those guys and saved the team who knew how many man-hunting hours.
Ruxs and Green sat down, both with wet hair like they’d just finished showering together and came to work.
“Steele, you must got some creatine muscle powder in your dick, man. You guys went on one date, next thing we know, Tech comes back putting motherfuckers down!” Ruxs’ strong voice was loud in the office and had all of them rolling with laughter; being the usual rowdy, crass bunch that they were.
Each of them went through their experiences of that night… again… Tech beaming while he added his rendition and how he felt being on the streets now. Syn even joked how he got his ass reamed – probably for the second time that night – by God when he got back to the office.
Steele cringed, looking up briefly, flicking Syn off for his crude comment, only to get the same gesture in return.
“Steele’s new name is dynamite dick from here on.” Day laughed, his feet propped up on his desk. Ruxs’ and Green’s deep, carrying laughter could probably be heard clear across the precinct.
Steele groaned loudly, dropping his head into his hands for a brief second before looking back to his monitor. He still had a hard time keeping in his laughter, especially when he could hear Tech behind him laughing hysterically.
“You can call him that your-fucking-self, because I’m not,” God added, looking fatigued while he reclined with his hands linked behind his head.
Steele guessed his personal life would no longer be personal around these guys. Everyone was in everyone else’s business. Tech never once tried to conceal the fact they’d had sex that first night, so he didn’t either. Day, Ruxs, and Green were still tossing around “dick” names when a uniformed officer came through the doors. Steele eyed him for a second, figuring he was a friend of someone’s in the office.
“Oh, this morning just got a lot more entertaining,” God murmured, looking at Steele with mischief glittering in his tired eyes.
Steele went back to concentrating until he heard the man’s smooth voice greet Tech in an entirely different way than he had the others.
“Good morning, Shawn.”
“Hey, Vasquez. How’s it going?” Tech’s voice was normal, the tone he used when he spoke to anyone… except for Steele.
“I’ve told you to call me Ramon.” The guy sounded like he was trying to infuse a little more bass and sensuality in his voice, making the hairs on Steele’s neck rise. The stocky man pulled a chair from the conference table and pushed it right up to Tech’s desk. Getting nice and comfortable. Steele kept his cool, not wanting to make any assumptions. But one thing he’d never been good with was encroaching. What was his was his.
“It’s a habit. So used to last names. How you been, Ramon? Just getting off shift?” Tech asked.
