Rejected by the Alpha (Alpha Shifter Collection)
“What got you both laughing?” he asked.
“Oh, he said he recognized an old soul inside of me. Kind of strange really as he said it would have been a shame for my parents to put me down, dead as a dog. I didn’t know what he meant, but I laughed along with him.”
Decker was going to have to talk to him, or send his father out to have a word. Misha’s life prior to the pack shouldn’t be discussed. He agreed with his dad—Misha didn’t need to know what was going to happen to her.
“He has always been a strange old man. What else do you have?” he asked, wanting to get back on track with work.
Misha went through twenty files. Some of the pack weren’t happy with the roads. They wanted them redone. Then, of course, there were the complaints of the humans that had stayed. That took ten folders. Each of them wanted to block any access through the town. Of course, that just wouldn’t do because the money helped to provide for the town. Also, they had a lot of deliveries of groceries, and humans helped to deliver their food. With no access to the town, there was going to be no way to feed them all. Which led to two files as they wanted to have some kind of product on the shelf at the supermarket. Three more were about the diner’s lack of choice. Again, he didn’t see the diner’s menu as his problem, but he would voice his concerns.
“And the last few are complaining about your lack of a mate,” Misha said.
“Huh? What? You’re joking.”
“Kind of wish I was, but I’m not. They don’t like that you’re not mated, and they want to know when you will be. Also, when there will be little cubs running around?”
“Misha, I’m sorry you had to deal with them.”
She held her hands up with a laugh. “Don’t worry about it. The women who came to complain apologized to me. They said they were so sorry that you were a giant pain in the ass.” She put the files on his desk. “The pack wants what it wants.”
“Misha, you know that means they want you by my side, permanently.”
She pressed her lips together. “What I do know it means is that we’re going to have to start using some precautions.”
“Not going to happen.”
“Decker, I could get pregnant.”
“I don’t see a problem with that,” he said, rounding the desk and wrapping his arms around her. “Do you?”
“Yeah, I do. We’re … I don’t even know what this is. Do you?”
“Misha, you’re my mate.”
“And we’ve had a lot of time to be alone while also being together. I don’t know what has gotten into you lately,” she said. “Why are you suddenly wanting to give this a try? Why does it matter to you?”
“Do you think I didn’t want this?” he asked.
“Do I need to remind you what you said?” she asked. “How disgusted you looked at me?”
“I wasn’t disgusted with you. You have got that totally wrong.”
“I don’t think I have. What you have wrong are your memories.” Her cell phone pinged.
“What’s that?” he asked.
“A friendly reminder that I’m needed at the diner. It’s a busy night. I’ll let you handle the diner complaints, but they need someone to help out with serving.”
“Why do you always get the request to help?” He hated it when she pulled out of his arms and started to head to the door.
She glanced back at him, and her smile was like a punch to the gut, but in an entirely good way.
“Didn’t you know?” she asked. “I’m the best person for the job.”
She winked at him, and it didn’t make him feel any better. In fact, he hated watching her walk away. This wasn’t going to make a good mating.
Picking up the file, he flicked it open, and Misha being Misha, she had filed it under Alpha complaint, his lack of mating.
Of course, she would.
What did he have to do to get her to see he wasn’t fighting this? Did he have to tell her the truth?
He needed to do something because not having Misha in his life was something he couldn’t allow.
Chapter Nine
This wasn’t productive.
The door was locked. No one was around. It was lunchtime.
Decker had told her of his request for her help last night. This wasn’t helpful.
She gasped as he spread the cheeks of her ass, the hard press of his thumb teasing across her anus. It seemed so wrong and yet at the same time so right.
His other hand was pressed against her pussy, stroking over her clit, and she sank her teeth into her lip, trying to contain the pleasured sounds. The pack would be flooding the town hall any second, or at least the people who had nothing better to do but complain.
