Cherishing Doe (Rockers' Legacy 7)

Jenner
Phone to my ear with one hand, I pushed the shopping cart with the other. “What flavors do you want?” I asked Pixie as I eyed the many selections of yogurt.
Since Violet was staying in West Bridge the majority of the time now, I’d discussed it with her, and after a little cajoling, Pixie had finally agreed to move down here to be closer to me. I’d found a really good cancer center so she could continue her treatments, along with an apartment for her so we didn’t smother each other. I would have been all too happy to have her stay with me in the apartment over Luca Thornton’s garage, but Pixie had insisted on her own space.
She liked her independence, and I had to admit, I liked mine too.
Still, I visited her nearly every day and made sure to do all her grocery shopping. With her immune system compromised from her endless chemo treatments, the less she was around potentially sick people, the better.
“Vanilla, peach, key lime, and some of that lemon meringue,” she listed off. “And if they have it, can you grab a few of the kind with that candy on top?”
“Whatever you want,” I assured her, grabbing a few of each. “How about we order pizza for dinner tonight?”
“I’d rather have Chinese,” she mumbled.
Grinning, I grabbed a few of the candy-topped yogurt and moved on. “Chinese it is, then.”
“No, no,” she said with a little pout in her voice. “If you want pizza, get pizza.”
Rolling my eyes at how much of a little girl she sounded, I turned down another aisle. As I did, I caught a glimpse of silky dark hair and a curvy body that must have been molded by the gods themselves. My body instantly went rock hard, and I was all too thankful for the cart I was pushing to hide the erection that was testing the thread count of my jeans.
“What’s wrong?” Pixie demanded in my ear. “You’ve gone all quiet on me, Jenn.”
“Nothing’s wrong,” I told her. “I’m just looking at the selection of boxed mac and cheese. You like the shells, but there’s a sale on the other brand.”
“Then get the other brand,” she said. “We’re not rolling in dough, mister.”
Smiling, I picked up three boxes of the shells she liked so much. Sale or not, Pixie was getting what she preferred. After adding a few more items from that aisle, I journeyed down the next. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the goddess-like figure again, and just to torture myself, I switched directions. I only wanted to get a closer look. Maybe if I was lucky, I would even catch her scent.
Fuck, that smell of wild flowers was enough to drive me crazy.
As I started down the same aisle where Doe was paused, looking at a few selections on the shelves in front of her, someone started down in the opposite direction. The moment she saw Doe, a gleam filled the other girl’s eyes, and my fingers tightened around my phone. That look was an odd mixture of glee and venom, and for some reason, I wanted to shield Doe from it.
“Well, if it isn’t the little deer.”
The way she sneered the word “little” only pissed me off. Doe’s entire body stiffened, and she slowly turned her head. I wished I could see her face, to know what she was thinking when she looked at the mean girl before her, but her back was to me.
“Pixie,” I spoke quietly into the phone. “I’ll call you back.”
“Okay. See you soon. Love you!”
“Love you,” I murmured before ending the call and pocketing my phone.
“Hello, Courtney,” Doe greeted in a hard voice, a far cry from the sweetness I loved to hear when she spoke to Violet. “Are you home for the weekend?”
“Yes. My parents begged me to come for a visit since Daddy is running for reelection and doing some campaigning this week. So I drove down from Knoxville to spend a little time with them. Daddy considers me his good luck charm since his numbers always go up when I’m at his rallies.” The other girl’s gaze flickered over Doe from head to toe, and while it was obvious she was trying to insult Doe with the look, she couldn’t hide just how jealous she really was.
No wonder. Doe was a Grecian goddess. She stood just under six feet tall, with curves that would tempt a saint. Her dark hair looked like spun silk, and her porcelain skin was perfection, unenhanced by a single drop of makeup. Meanwhile, this Courtney was average height with chemically enhanced blond hair, and so skinny her bones were protruding from her skin. Her face was pretty enough, but that was with the help of who knew how many layers of makeup. Maybe I was biased, but Doe was a solid ten, whereas it was being generous to rate the other girl a four.
But no matter if Courtney was pretty or not, the meanness I sensed in her was what really made her ugly.
“A bunch of us are home this weekend, actually. To celebrate Daddy’s big primary win since I was too busy to come home at the time,” Courtney went on when Doe remained silent. “Are the golden three in town?”
“No, my brothers rarely come home.”
“Too bad.” The gleam in Courtney’s eyes only got brighter. “Well, you should come out with us. We’re going to drive into Nashville and do a bar crawl.”
“Sorry, I’m busy,” Doe told her.
“Oh, you have a date?” she snickered.
I could tell things were going to get bad if I didn’t step in, so I pushed my cart closer, catching Courtney’s attention. Interest filled her eyes, replacing that evil gleam. I gave her a frown as I stepped up beside Doe. “Hey, gorgeous,” I greeted, turning my head to look straight at her. Pink filled her beautiful face, and I couldn’t help wondering if that blush covered her entire body. “I was just thinking about you. Do you want Chinese or pizza tonight?”
Doe’s mouth opened into a sexy little “O.” Images of her on her knees with her mouth open just like that, ready to suck my cock, filled my mind, and I had to shake my head so I could focus.
“I…um… Pizza?” she said softly.
“Perfect. I’ll grab it on my way home tonight,” I promised. Reaching out, I tucked a few locks of her hair behind her ear, only to realize that was a mistake. I’d never touched her before, had always resisted the urge, no matter how powerful it was. Now I understood why I’d forced myself to fight it for so long.
It was fucking addictive. One touch and all I wanted to do was skim my fingers along every inch of Doe’s amazing body. I could happily spend hours just exploring that wonderland.
Courtney made a sound in the back of her throat, trying to draw my attention. Reluctantly, I slowly lowered my hand and had to tear my gaze away from Doe to glance at the blonde. She gave me a flirty smile and held out her hand. “Hi. I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Courtney. Courtney Wilcox. Senator Wilcox’s daughter.”
I glanced down at her hand before lifting my own, but instead of taking it, I brushed Doe’s hair off her shoulder. Leaning in, I inhaled that wild flower scent that I craved. I felt her shiver as I whispered, “See you tonight.”
“O-okay,” she breathed.
Giving her a wink, I steered my cart between hers and Courtney’s and left them standing there. Fuck, my cock was throbbing, but it was worth it. To touch Doe, to smell her… Damn, I wanted to do it again. She’d already made me an addict, and she hadn’t done anything but stand there staring at me like I was a damned superhero.
I finished the rest of Pixie’s shopping and quickly made my way to her apartment, trying to put Doe out of my head.
But that was impossible.
