Entangled By Him
CHAPTER 34
Maxim
For the past couple of hours, we've been waiting for more news. The Moretti siblings and I sit around the seating area in my office.
I laugh again as Colt finishes telling us a story about him and Anna when they were younger. We've been swapping stories, everything is nice, and it all feels right.
I'm a lot closer and get along better with Jax than I ever thought I would. Instead of him being a traitor, he's turned into a good friend.
Only Jax, Colt and I are sitting in here. Martha is on a very well-deserved vacation with her family.
She was able to call us from the hospital. Apparently they dropped her off in the sticks somewhere. A man driving down the road spotted her and rushed her to the hospital.
She can’t remember much, and she doesn’t know where they were. She was blindfolded the whole time.
Marco refused to end her, saying she reminded him too much of his mother.
Finn is currently on a call with her in another room making sure she’s okay.
I grab us all a bottle of water then sit back down. I would love if we could drink right now but we plan on getting Anna very soon.
As Jax starts telling the next story, the door is slammed open, crashing against the wall.
All of us quickly stand up and face the door, wondering what the hell is going on. A red face Mason stomps through the entryway heading straight to the bar.
We all casually sit back down, not taking our eyes off him, but not daring to ask a question. From his body language and the way his mood seems, it's wise to let him start talking.
He slams back two whiskey glasses, expensive liquid from my favorite decanter. He looks around at us then shakes his head. He grabs onto the decanter and a glass before heading over and joining us.
He looks at each one of us. I can tell Jax is starting to get annoyed. He hasn't taken his eyes off of him and they're starting to squint. He leans forward in his seat, his posture is very rigid.
Mason downs other huge drink before he spits out, “Ray is the reason your sister is dead.” He's looking straight at me.
“We kind of figured this,” Jax states as we all wonder what his brother is up to.
Mason slam's back to rest of his drink, “well, I just found proof of it.” He takes his phone out and throws it on the coffee table.
Jax and Colt start to look through what looks like pictures to me.
“Damn,” Colt mumbles as he looks at us. “Where did you find all this shit?”
Mason leans back in his chair, “it's one of the properties that we found connected to him. He tried to hide, but after some digging, we were able to trace it back to him.
I hold out my hand for them to pass the phone to me, I'm very curious what he's talking about.
There are multiple pictures in a room that’s covered in research. Papers and photos are attached to a wall. Like the other room of his that shows his obsession with Anna.
As I scroll through the pictures it shows up close shots. There's a ton of information about Sophia and Anna's involvement in the case.
There's contact information for Cooper, the guy that killed my sister. On his desk in the room, it looks like a bank statement which shows a deposit of twenty-five thousand dollars.
“Fuck,” I run my hands through my hair, Jarod Cooper paid him for the information about an incoming attack.
Mason stands up abruptly. “How could we not fucking know who this man was? He was in our goddamn house.” He looks over at Jax as he says the last part.
Before Jax can speak, I intervene. “Some people are that good. This is Marco, not Ray. He's the head of the Mexican Mafia. He had everybody fooled, not just you guys.”
My hand tightens around the phone. I keep looking through the pictures. There's one person I definitely still want to get my hands on and that's Cruz, but these bastards are all going down.
We passed the phone around several times. I asked Mason to send those pictures to Booker so he can print everything.
No words are spoken as everybody is lost in their own thoughts. There's nothing really that any of us can say.
We were all screwed, I lost my sister because of it. Now I have the chance of losing the woman I love, the Moretti’s sister if we don't find a solution.
I get up and start to pace. I'm getting overly worked up about this. I've got to get her back now. Who knows what that bastard's done to her.
My phone starts to ring, pulling me from my angry haze.
I look down at the phone number calling, “it's Anna.” I quickly answer, “hey babe.”
The phone is put on speaker so everybody can hear her as the guys grunt out hellos.
“Oh no, what's wrong?” I can hear the worry in Anna's voice.
“Nothing baby, we're all upset about everything. This can all be talked about later. Did you find out anything new?”
“From eavesdropping, I did find that the guards switch around at two a.m. I'm not sure if I heard right but it sounds like there's going to be at least fifteen or twenty of them.
Jax and I both share a look, “this is good news.” He nods at me, “make sure that you're ready to go at two a.m. that's when we're coming for you.”
“Thank God,” she whispers.
“How much battery do you have left?” Jax asks.
We can hear movement on the other end while she moves the phone away from her face. “It's at twenty-eight percent.”
I take a deep breath and sigh, there's nothing more I'd rather do than just to sit here and talk to her. “Okay, well let's hang up for now. If you think of anything send a text message. That uses a lower amount of battery.”
Anna sniffles, “okay, I love all of you guys.” Everyone says their goodbyes.
All the guys stand back up again as Jax looks around the room. He walks over and pulls the decanter away from Mason. “You need to sober up, we don't have very long.”
Mason yawns and gets up walking out of the room, most likely heading towards the kitchen.
At that instant Finn comes back in shaking his head with a smile on his face. Martha is a very entertaining woman, she's got the mouth of a truck driver and sense of humor to go with it.
The guys quickly update Finn as Booker brings in the pictures. Perfect timing, Finn’s able to see the pictures. All of us are better able to see them.
We go over some more mundane plans on how we're going to progress tonight. I want to make sure that every avenue is covered and so does Jax.
We both are bringing in guys from our sides. I was hoping to have at least a hundred. Start with twenty-five guys first going in, and then every few minutes another twenty-five guys comes in after.
It'll make Marco think that it's never-ending, especially if he doesn't have that many guys at that time.
It looks like we're only going to get about fifty, Jax and I decided to send them in increments of fifteen.
I look at the clock, we still have several hours. “Let's everybody try to get a nap in, or at least rest.” They all nod in understanding. I know that Mason will probably be happy to hear this, if he's able to go to sleep.
All of us get up and make our way to our respective rooms, planning on meeting back here in about four or five hours.
