It was a moment that stopped my heart.

That made me feel whole.

Then it was Tayte’s turn to tip over the edge.

Celeste cried out again, softer this time as Tayte came inside her.

The three of our genetics mixing together in her belly.

The way it should have been from the start.

The thought made me wonder if things would ever be equal between us. Would Celeste ever love us or need us, as she did Tayte?

The Alpha collapsed beside her, panting and gasping for breath.

I reached for her and she fell forward on the mattress, her eyes closed and her body obviously exhausted.

I didn’t really want to stay in Tayte’s bed any longer.

I needed a shower, and some space.

I loved being an Omega, a part of this family, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to ever compete for my mate’s love with the Alpha around.

“I’m going to have a shower.”

Sam stood up, obviously feeling the same way.

Tayte scooped our mate up and held her against him. “I don’t think she should be alone.”

“Yeah, true. See you later, then.”

Sam and I left, and Celeste slept on.

She didn’t notice we were gone, and I didn’t blame her. Not really.

“So much for this being an equal relationship, huh?” Sam said as we headed to our end of the house.

“I’m gonna have a shower. You okay if I go first?”

I cringed at the question. I was asking for permission to shower first, and yet hadn’t asked whether he cared if I made love to our mate first.

Seemed stupid somehow.

Sam shrugged and didn’t look at me. “Whatever. Doesn’t matter to me.”

He went into his bedroom and shut the door.

A cold fist tightened inside my gut.

Damn it. How did this day turn from good to bad so quickly?

I went into the bathroom and had a long, hot shower, washing away the smell of my mate and of the sex we’d had together.

Hoping in a strange way that if I did that, I could wash away the feelings of rejection and inadequacy as well.

After I was dry and dressed, I realised it was going to take a lot more than a shower to get rid of that.
