The Woodland Packs
“Yeah, what happened?”
“Ah, well, you fainted.”
“I fainted? Seriously?” I’d never fainted. Not for a single moment. Not during University, or my thousands of hours in the E.R. and the horrific surgeries I’d witnessed. Why would I faint now? “My iron is probably down. I’ve been pretty exhausted lately.”
There had to be a good explanation for this.
I tried to focus on Claire, but all of my attention was on two of the men in the room. They were the ones I’d seen this morning. The next door neighbours. And they were staring at me like a hungry man would a juicy steak.
Like they’d never seen a woman before.
And unfortunately, my starved body was experiencing the same thing.
I could feel the arousal curling in my belly, the heat in my loins. And over perfect strangers. How utterly insane was that?
“Nevaeh, I think you should stay here for the night. We have heaps of room, and I don’t think you should be driving.”
I raised an eyebrow at my boss. “You know I don’t call in sick—ever. Three years running and never had a sick day.”
Claire frowned. “You’ve been unconscious for over half an hour. That’s not normal, hun. And if you have to go back to the hospital, I insist on giving you an escort. Grayson and Aaron can drive you.”
She indicated to the two hot men across from us and a shiver of excitement coursed down my spine.
There were both gorgeous. Sex on legs. Lethal for a weak woman like me.
“No. I’ll be fine.”
Claire gave me the look, the one she reserved for errant patients. “You have two choices. You can call in sick, stay here overnight and drive yourself home in the morning, or Grayson can drive you back now. You know me, Nevaeh… and I don’t back down easily.”
Dex laughed from the couch. “Easily? How ‘bout never?”
I shivered. From what, I wasn’t sure. I wasn’t cold, and I wasn’t scared.
But the way those two men, Grayson and Aaron, were looking at me, was causing major issues with my internal thermostat.
“Ah… you’re not giving me much choice, Claire.”
She grinned at me and I relaxed even more. This was a woman I trusted, and if she said to stay, I’d stay.
I wasn’t letting two strange men drive me an hour back to the hospital.
“I’ll stay here if you have the room. A good night’s sleep would probably do me the world of good, actually.” I’d been pushing hard lately. Fifty, sixty-hour weeks most of the time. “But only if it’s no trouble.”
“No. No, not at all. You can sleep down here in Jay’s room if you want, or Taylor’s room upstairs. We all sleep in Dexter’s room when I’m home.”
My mind flashed with images of how they’d sleep together. Coiled and sensual and naked. Pressed up against one another, having fallen where they may after a hot session of sex.
Or maybe they lay like puppies. On top of each other and in a pile.
A giggle escaped my lips at the idea and Claire cocked her head at me. “What’s funny?
“Ah… nothing, I’ll ask you later.”
My face was heating with a blush, and I was mortified to think I was so obviously being inappropriate in front of all these people.
Grayson, the huge, hot one was backing towards the front door, “Ah, Claire, Brad will be getting home from work soon. Do you mind if we come back after dinner?”
Although he was talking to Claire, his gaze kept darting towards me.
