“I know, baby. I grew up here.”

“You grew up here?”

“Yep. Right down the street actually. My twin sister, Leah, you’ll meet her today, is staying with my mom and stepdad.”

“Oh, cool.”

“Yeah. When I wrote the screenplay, I knew it had to take place here. The Carlise Farm is where most of the filming takes place, but there are few other old buildings we’ll be shooting at.”

“I can’t wait, but if you don’t get up and showered, you’ll be late for the first day. That’s can’t be good for the director,” she says, laughing.

“No, probably not. I’ll go across the hall and get ready. Give me ten minutes and we’ll go over together.”

“We can’t go together,” she says, handing me a coffee.

“Why the hell not?”

“Everyone will know. Movie set gossip is the worst.”

“Everyone will know anyway. Once press starts for the movie they will know.”

“Yeah, but that’s months from now.”

“Fine,” I say, hating this, but I know she’s right. I’ve seen it first hand when actresses sleep with the director. The other actors make her life miserable without the director ever knowing about it. It would be a lot like telling the principal, so no one does. I don’t want that for her. By the time this movie premieres, we’ll be married, and no one can say a damn thing about it.

“Don’t be mad, Adam. I promise I’ll make it up to you,” she says, standing on her tiptoes to kiss me. I groan and fist my hands into the part of her shirt that’s covering her butt.

“I’m not mad, baby.” I kiss her again before taking my coffee and leaving her be.

Everything in me is screaming to take her in my arms and make love to her again, but I know now isn’t the time.

Fuck, this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.

Chapter Six

Last night was so intense but in a good way. The best way. My body is still tingling, and I have no idea how I am going to get through today, pretending I don’t know Adam as biblically as I do. It’ll be hard, but I don’t want the ridicule and low-key bashing that comes with fucking the director, no matter how much I love getting fucked by said director. God, did I love that. I bite my lip and squirm in my seat. My pussy is instantly wet just thinking about him. I have to get it together. Is it possible to fall in love after roughly eight hours? People fall in love at first sight, so I guess eight hours and a trillion orgasms is plenty of time. Right? Imma tell him the next time I see him, the consequences be damned.

I’m waiting in the lobby for the ride Dottie promised to pick me up. I forgot to call ahead, so I am scrolling through my social media while I wait. I damn near drop my phone when I see what I see from my sister. Jenna is on location in Ipswich, England. I have no idea what she’s filming because it’s so hush-hush. It’s probably a superhero movie or something. That’d be just like her. Her relationship status changed from single to married overnight. She definitely wasn’t married yesterday. Without a second thought, I dial her number.

“Hello?” a man’s deep voice answers, surprising me.

“Hi. I’m looking for Jenna,” I reply, instantly on alert.

“Give me the phone, bear,” Jenna says. Bear? I can hear him whisper something to her and her giggle.

“Hello?” My sister’s happy voice comes through the phone.

“Jenna?” I ask though I know it’s her.

“Evie!” she exclaims. “It’s my sister, Evie.”

“I got that part, babe. I’ll let you talk.”

“What did you do, Jenna?”

“I married Darren Sinjin last night,” she says proudly. I can’t help smiling.

“Darren Sinjin? Holy shit. He’s…” He’s interesting. I think he grew up in the circus or something.

“Careful, sister. That’s my husband.”

“Alright. Well, tell me everything.”

“I can’t tell you everything, but I will say he’s amazing in bed. You have no idea what I mean, but god, girl let me tell you. I am… amazed.”

“I do know what you mean.”

“You didn’t? Who? Tell me.”

“Adam Campbell.”

“Holy shit, the Dexter Girls are getting it.”

“Jenna, please. It wasn’t like that, it was…”

“Amazing?”

“Yeah,” I breathe.

“I get it. He’s special.”

“He’s the one,” I declare, knowing it without a shadow of a doubt.

“I know. Isn’t it the best. Mom didn’t prepare us at all,” she says.

“I know. Speaking of mom…”

“She told me she hit you again. You’ve gotta start hitting back, or she’ll never stop, Evie.”

“She needs to go to rehab, you know that.”

“Is it really our problem? Dad should deal with this.”

“If he could climb out of the cunt of that eighteen-year-old actress long enough, he might, but let’s be honest, he doesn’t care either way,” I tell her. Dottie stands in front of me. “Sorry,” I mouth.
