Lighthouse Way (Huckleberry Bay 1)
“No, I don’t have much. I’ll grab some stuff and won’t be far behind you.”
“Okay. See you soon.”
She blows me a kiss and then sets off, moving up the slight hill to her place. I can’t help but watch as her ass sways back and forth as she walks. Luna is curvy in all the right places.
And she’s all mine.
I walk into the house and sigh when I look to the left and notice I can see right through the kitchen to the trees beyond. I’m not sentimental about anything in the house, so it won’t hurt my feelings if they tear it down as it stands and haul it all away.
But the timing couldn’t be worse.
With a resigned shrug, I get to work shoving my clothes into suitcases, then gather my toiletries and take a quick walk-through to make sure I haven’t forgotten anything.
I grab the family portrait taken when I was in the first grade off the wall and take it with me.
The rest of the family photos are already in my storage unit.
After I load my SUV, I drive it up to Luna’s and then jog back down to drive the Ferrari up, as well.
“Hey, John,” I call out before I leave the house.
“Yeah?” he says as he walks over to me.
“I don’t need anything else from inside. Go ahead and take it all down. You’ll have better access to the garage.”
He sighs. “I’m sorry, Wolfe.”
“Don’t sweat it. Go ahead and have it cleared away. I’ll have my phone if you need anything.”
“I’ll see to it,” he says and walks away, calling out to his crew. “Change of plans!”
I drive away with one final look at the house I grew up in.
“That was productive,” Luna says as we drive down the coast toward home. “It was so nice that they had the lighting samples all ready to go for you.”
“No guesswork,” I agree. “Because I’m no interior decorator.”
“I think it’s fun,” she says with a grin. “And that would be why we were there for an extra hour while I picked out some stuff for the B&B. Thanks for being patient.”
“You fed me,” I reply with a shrug. “It was an even trade.”
After spending a significant amount of time in the lighting store, Luna took me out for lunch. I started to object because I prefer to buy the meals, but she just laughed at me and took the check out of my fingers.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a woman do that before.
And while it’s not something that will become a habit, it was kind of…refreshing.
“Did you talk with June?” I ask her.
“Yeah, she’s fine. She said she didn’t want to laugh so hard she peed her pants in front of you, so she excused herself.”
“June doesn’t have much of a filter.”
“She has no filter,” Luna says. “Despite what she claims. And it’s one of the things I love about her. You never have to wonder where you stand with her. And although she’s blunt, June would rather gnaw her arm off than hurt anyone’s feelings. It’s rare to find someone who says it like she sees it and is mindful of her words.”
“She doesn’t seem to give a shit when it comes to your brother.”
I glance over in time to see Luna cringe.
“No, you’re right. She’s not exactly careful when it comes to Apollo.”
“What’s the story there?”
“Honestly, I’m not sure. It’s just sort of always been the case. Even when we were kids, no one could make Juniper mad the way Apollo could. They’re just like water and oil.”
“It’s sexual tension,” I say and feel Luna staring at me, so I look over at her. “It is. Trust me. I’m a guy, and I see how they look at each other when they think the other doesn’t notice.”
“No, it’s just a weird, mutual dislike. Trust me. I’ve known them both all my life.”
“I don’t think so.”
Before we can argue the point further, a little Audi R8 passes me on a double line and cuts in front of me just before a dump truck hits him head-on.
“What in the hell?” Luna gasps.
“Fucker,” I mutter. This stretch of highway along the coast is twisty, with a cliff drop-off on the right. There’s ample shoulder space but no room to be an asshole.
My Ferrari handles the curves like a dream, and I ease off the gas to put some space between the Audi and us.
Driving is what I do. I’m in complete control.
But I have Luna with me, and the asshole in front of us apparently thinks it’s fun to fuck with the luxury car.
“Why is he doing that?” Luna asks, gripping onto the door as the car ahead swerves back and forth, then cuts over to the left lane into oncoming traffic before slowing down so he’s right next to me. “He’s flipping you off! Does he want to race?”
