Our Happily Ever After (Bold As Love 5)

Five.

One of their players shoots the puck.

Two.

Our goalie stops it and the buzzer sounds. Game over!

What a great game. Bev gets excited over the win and hugs Drake. She's a little too excited, if you ask me, because of how long she hugs him. I can't worry too much though because it'll get out of hand and become ridiculous. We head home, Bev coming along to hang out as well. Jake comes home a couple of hours later, a grin on his face as he walks over, picks me up, and twirls me around. I love when he comes home after a win like this. The sex is going to be mind blowing.

“I can't believe I'm actually meeting Jake Benson,” Bev says, now standing instead of sitting on the couch when Jake places me back on the floor.

He turns towards her, says hello, and shakes her hand. This is the first time they have met and turns out that Bev is a huge fan. I mean, huge. She starts rambling about stats and Jake's past games, not even acknowledging Drake anymore. Uh, oh. This isn't good. Jake tries to steer the conversation away from hockey, but the girl won't give it a rest. She's hopping on the crazy train with her fanatics.

Her phone goes off, she frowns, and announces that her parents are here to pick her up. She shakes Jake's hands as she says how great it was to meet him, blah, blah, blah. Bev leaves without ever saying goodbye to Drake, and he opened the door for her as she left.

“Well, I guess that's the last we'll see of her,” Drake mumbles as he plops down onto the couch. “Man, is she obsessed with you or what?” He smiles a little at Jake.

“Sorry, buddy. I didn't mean to steal the spotlight.”

Drake shrugs. “It's okay. I had a feeling that was why she wanted to hang out with me.”

I feel so bad for him. “I'm sure that wasn't the only reason, Drake.” I sit down next to him and put an arm around his shoulders. “You're good looking, smart, and a nice guy. You're only fourteen. Don't let it get to you.”

“Emily's right, Drake,” Jake confirms.

“I'm always right.” I smile at him and he chuckles.

“It still stings a little, but whatever. Next time, I know not to waste a ticket on a girl.” Drake shakes his head like that was the mistake.

“Don't say that. Hockey is the way to a girl's heart. Well, it's one way, but a damn good one. Just look for the signs next time. If you spend more time talking about your brother than the sport in general or other things in life, then don't 'waste a ticket' on her. Okay?”

He nods and then excuses himself to go to his room. Jake takes his seat, grabs my hand, and kisses my knuckles.

“I feel bad for him, love.”

“He'll be fine, Sweetness. He's young. He'll bounce back by tomorrow.” When I nod in agreement, Jake says in a sultry voice that warms me to the core, “Ready to celebrate?”
