“I’ll be handling your trust.”

“Oh.” He means the money I received from the settlement when I was a child. I receive the rest of my funds on my twenty-fifth birthday.

“Howard retired and my uncle saw an opportunity for me to get my feet wet and step into the family business.”

“I see. Is it standard protocol to show up unannounced to see your clients?”

“I called and your grandmother suggested I come in and say hello.”

“Ah.” Now we’re getting somewhere.

“I meant to drop in earlier in the week, but I was caught up in work.”

“No biggie. How long has it been? Like ten years or so?”

“Something like that. I moved at the start of eighth grade year.”

“Right. I think I remember that.” I hope I never see him ever again. The wish I made all those years ago when I made that stupid love spell.

“Anyway, I gotta get going, but I’d love to take you to lunch. Say tomorrow?”

“Lunch? Um yeah. I think we could do that.”

Logan sits his empty teacup on the end table by the chair before reaching into his back pocket to produce a business card. “My personal cell phone number is on the back. Shoot me a text and we’ll schedule that lunch.” He winks and I admit the act is charming coming from him. There’s a smoothness to him that is attractive.

“Yeah. Sure. Looking forward to it.”

“Me too.” His lips twitch into a smile, and I watch him strut out the door and climb into a tricked out silver Range Rover.

Gram is already on the move collecting his teacup no doubt to read his leaves. “Now that was the young man I was expecting the other day.”

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

“Because, puddin pie, you’d have said no to seeing him otherwise. Don’t think I’ve forgotten how you cried over him and that dance.” She picks at his tea leaves and smiles. “I see great things. Make sure you text him.”

“Maybe I will.”

“Ain’t no maybe to it. What I tell you. He was supposed to come by the other day. He’s a few days late, but I’m never wrong.”
