Having Faith (Maclean Mafia Men 2)
He frowned at her. “You’ve got four on the bed. How many more do you need?”
“I know there are pillows on the bed, but I wanted to ask permission to take one to the sofa.”
“What the hell for?”
She gritted her teeth in frustration. “To sleep.”
He snorted and set the things on a cart by the bedroom door. “You’re not leaving the bed, baby. So go brush your teeth, and then you can go to sleep.”
“Wait, I can’t be in the same bed as you.”
He straightened and stared at her. “Yes, you can, and you will.”
Hell, he was using that dark honeyed tone he used before, and it sent tingles up her spine. It was deep and smooth, but mixed with a large dose of dominance.
“I don’t think it’s proper.”
“I don’t fucking care. I want you in my bed, so that’s where you’ll be.”
She wanted to growl at him, but she didn’t have the energy to fight. Instead, she slid off the chair and walked by him. “This talk isn’t over.”
He rolled his eyes.
She brushed her teeth and came back to see the room was dark except for the light from the lamp on the table that the food was on. He’d put the tray on the cart that the woman had brought and turned down the bed.
He held up the blanket. “Hop in.”
She started to climb up onto the mattress, ignoring his smirk when she struggled a bit. The damn thing was four feet off the ground. Comfortable for a man Graham’s size but hard for a little person who was barely over five feet tall. She just hoped she never fell out of it because she was afraid she’d break a bone or be killed.
“Why don’t you give me the throw you wrapped around yourself?” he asked.
“No, it’s fine.”
He sighed and tucked the blanket around her. “Go to sleep. We’ll figure out everything in the next day or so.”
She nodded and watched him sit in the chair that faced her. He went through a file and started reading a paper.
He looked so damn handsome sitting there with his elbow propped on the arm of the chair and his thumb stroking over his lower lip. She had no idea why she thought that was sexy, but the simple move made her body feel hot and her skin tight.
She pressed her legs together to help the growing ache. While she knew what desire was, she hadn’t ever felt it before.
“Faith, close your eyes.”
Her hands curled and gripped the top of the blanket to lift it enough for her to roll over and turn away from him.
She sighed. It helped a little for her body to settle since she couldn’t see him now, but she would swear she could still hear him breathe and the beat of his heart.
She couldn’t hold sleep off anymore. Her body was giving in to the exhaustion she’d felt for a long time. The fact she felt safer than she ever had before made her sleep deepen, letting her get the best rest of her life.
