Captured By The Mercenaries
“No, just patrolling their own camp. If I had to guess, I’d say they have no idea where we are.”
“Numbers?” I asked
“A lot. More than the three of us want to take on out in the open like this.”
“And they’re looking for us?”
He frowned and shook his head. “Your guess is as good as mine.”
My guess was, yes. They were looking for us. Why else would they be out here? Odds were they were either with Roj or The Holy Order. Either way, they weren’t going to find us. “Let’s get out of here.”
Together, we crawled back until we were sure we wouldn’t be spotted. We loped back to our own camp and Sig went in to wake the others while I grabbed our last minute things and stowed them on our camels.
“Shhh,” Sig hushed Colby as he and Arsen came out of the hut.
Arsen was carrying her in his arms. She was dressed, but looking very sleepy and grumpy, so I was sure one of the men had shoved her into her clothes and shoes.
“But where are we going?” she asked again, in a whisper this time.
“We have to leave. Someone’s found us,” I told her.
Her eyes met mine, shock entering them. “Americans?”
“No. Enemies.” Though, if they discovered her with us and that we had essentially kidnapped her, the Americans might fit that description, too.
Nodding, Colby hopped down out of Arsen’s hold and began helping us take the rest of our things over. We were finished in minutes and Arsen loaded her up in front of him on his camel.
Within ten minutes of discovering the large force bearing down on us, we were gone like wraiths through mist.
