Savage Heart (Wreck & Ruin 2)
Epilogue
1 year later
“He’s going to be pissed,” I laugh.
“Yes,” Isobel agrees, “But it’ll be short lived.”
“Perhaps,” I muse.
She walks across to me, straightening my tie. “I couldn’t miss my big brothers wedding.”
“He thinks you’re dead, you could have.” I counter.
She cocks a brow, “It’s time we come back, we both know they need us.”
I roll my head side to side, “Perhaps.”
We both knew the Syndicate’s end wouldn’t just be the end, there would be some cleansing to do and that’s why we were back. They had been doing a great job in ridding the cockroaches that had survived, there weren’t many left now. They weren’t big dogs in the game, but they were part of that organization and they had to go. It was time for us to lend a hand.
But really, Isobel wanted to see her brother get married.
She was stunning in her blue dress, her black hair curled and a light in her eyes that I had put there. She cups my face and kisses me before she plucks up her bag and heads to the door, “Ready?”
The ceremony was long, but Isobel watched the whole thing, tears in her eyes and her hand clutched over her heart. We watched Kingston take his vows to Eleanor and we got to watch as they made their walk as husband and wife. We stayed in the back, hidden from view, and at the reception we slid in behind the crowd, taking a spot right at the back.
We would only reveal ourselves at the right time.
It was almost midnight by the time we could do that.
The hall where the party was taking place started to empty out, the guests disappearing to their own rooms or to the bar leaving only a few in the reception hall.
Kingston and Eleanor are cozied up in the corner, her in his lap and his mouth at her neck.
“It’s time,” Isobel whispers from our dark corner.
I take her hand and guide her towards the newly married couple. They don’t notice us until Isobel clears her throat. Kingston looks mildly annoyed for the interruption until his eyes land on his sister and his face goes white. Eleanor gasps.
“Hello brother.”
“Isobel?” He chokes.
“Hi Kingston,” She smiles, “Congratulations.”
“This isn’t real.”
“I’m alive, Kingston, and I’m sorry. I needed to do it, but there was no way I’d miss your wedding. No way I’d miss you bringing Eleanor into our family. I am sorry and I am so proud of you.”
Eleanor cries quietly in his lap.
“Congratulations, Kingston,” I squeeze his shoulder, “We’re not ghosts.”
“You died,” He chokes, “you died.”
“I’m here,” Isobel confirms, her hand linking to mine, fingers holding tight. “And we’re here to stay.”
