Good Girl
Iwatch her go sipping my coffee. If my raging erection could just go as easily then I’d be more than happy with the turn of events.
“Dom.” Tim says as he pulls up a chair.
“Coffee’s just brewed.” I state.
“Nah I’m good.” He replies before glancing back as if he’s still expecting Eden to be here. “What was she doing here?”
“Like I said just dropping off these files.” I reply picking them up.
“You’ve got her running errands for you now?” He laughs.
“Not errands.” I reply. “Terri was meant to bring them but she was too busy.”
He snorts. “Course she was.” He mutters. “Still not a bad substitute.”
“Meaning?” I say tilting my head. That’s my fucking stepdaughter he’s talking about.
“Come on man, don’t act like you’ve not whacked one out over her.”
“The fuck are you talking about?” I growl.
“Eden. She’s a hot bit of stuff. Who hasn’t had a wank to the thought of her?”
I shake my head, my anger is flashing and it’s all I can do not to throw this desk aside and beat the living shit out of the man.
“You and I are going to have a serious falling out if you don’t watch how you speak about Eden.” I state.
“Sorry mate.” He says but he doesn’t look like it. “You two looked pretty cosy anyway.”
“Meaning?”
“Meaning you sure you’re not being overly protective for reasons other than being her stepdad?”
I snarl. “I took her on, helped raised her from the age of thirteen.”
He nods like he doesn’t know it. Like this is new information. While I try not to think about the fact I’m literally fucking around with her, the girl I should look upon as my kid. The girl I do look upon as my kid.
“What did you want?” I ask sitting back in my chair.
“The new accounts we filed. The auditors found a discrepancy.”
“What sort of discrepancy?” I ask.
“There’s a quarter million missing.”
“What? From where?”
“Here.” He says laying the paper down and showing me the highlighted sections. “These are all the transactions we can’t account for.”
I run my hand over my face. “Are you saying what I think you’re saying?”
“That someone is stealing from the fund? Yeah that’s exactly it.”
“Fuck.” I hiss. No one even has access but me and Timothy and a handful of others. “We have to get the police involved.”
“No we don’t. Not until we know what’s what.”
“The longer we wait, the more suspicious this looks.” I state.
“And if it is nothing then we’ve caused a whole heap of shit for nothing.”
“Fuck.” I groan. He’s got a point but that doesn’t mean I think he’s right.
“Leave it with me.” He says. “I’ll get it sorted.”
I nod and he gets up and goes.
But as soon as he’s gone I pull my phone out and call a police contact anyway. I’ll be damned if I let my own stupid mistakes bring the entire company down and if there is a thief, which it’s more than likely there is, I want them caught, I want them held accountable. I want them brought to justice.
